MIDDLETOWN
- New Holland-Middletown Elementary District 88 faculty and staff
met at the Central Illinois Food Bank in Springfield on June 16 to
spend the afternoon volunteering in the warehouse.
The Food Bank serves a 21-county region in central Illinois,
including Logan County. This organization collects donated food and
grocery items from growers, manufacturers, processors, distributors
and retailers for distribution to agencies serving people in need.
|
Currently, the Central Illinois Food Bank
distributes over 8.5 million pounds of food annually to food
pantries, soup kitchens, residential programs and after-school
programs.
Concluding the 2014-2015 school year with a theme of “Making a
Difference,” the afternoon was spent sorting several pallets of
donated food in their 56,000 square foot distribution facility in
Springfield. Relying on large amounts of donations, officials at the
Food Bank were very appreciative for the afternoon of help.
According to NH-M Superintendent Todd Dugan, “I’m very proud of our
teachers and staff for donating a day during the summer break to
volunteer to help others less fortunate. Just as important as the
academic curriculum offered by our school district is the curriculum
that we model to our students by serving those in need and giving
back to our communities.”
