Red Wings 2, Rangers 1 (Overtime)
Defenseman Marek Zidlicky's power-play goal 1:09 into overtime gave
the Detroit Red Wings a win against the New York Rangers.
Zidlicky, who was acquired via a trade from the New Jersey Devils on
Monday, jammed in a shot that rolled over goaltender Cam Talbot's
back and into the net.
Goaltender Jimmy Howard made 39 saves for the Red Wings (36-15-11)
who pulled within a point of second-place Tampa Bay in the Atlantic
Division.
Right winger Justin Abdelkader also scored for Detroit and center
Henrik Zetterberg had two assists.
Defenseman Dan Girardi scored for New York (39-17-7) who tied the
New York Islanders at 85 points atop the Metropolitan Division.

Ducks 3, Canadiens 1
The Anaheim Ducks beat Montreal, putting them in sole possession of
the top spot in the Western Conference.
Defenseman Francois Beauchemin, Rickard Rakell and Cam Fowler all
scored for Anaheim (42-17-7) who also got 37 saves from rookie
goaltender John Gibson.
Gibson has won six of his last seven decisions, creating an enviable
dilemma for Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau, who also saw No. 1 goalie
Frederik Andersen return from injury and earn a win at Arizona
Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Montreal (41-18-5) dropped to 0-2 on their West Coast
road trip, leaving four teams within four points of them in the
East.

Avalanche 3, Penguins 1
Gabriel Landeskog had a goal and two assists, goaltender Semyon
Varlamov had 28 saves and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Pittsburgh
Penguins.
Jarome Iginla and Nathan MacKinnon also scored for Colorado.
Evgeni Malkin scored his fifth goal in the last four games for
Pittsburgh, which had its four-game winning streak snapped. Goalie
Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 19 of 22 shots for the Penguins.
[to top of second column] |
The Penguins (36-18-9) are third in the Metropolitan Division and
securely in the playoffs barring a collapse in the final 18 games.
They trail the New York Rangers by four points. They missed a chance
to gain ground on the Rangers, who lost to Detroit in overtime on
Wednesday.

Senators 3, Jets 1
Ottawa goalie Andrew Hammond stopped 35 shots and Kyle Turris scored
a goal and set up another as the Senators dumped the Winnipeg Jets.
Hammond was the undisputed star for the Senators (28-23-11), who
earned nine of 10 points in their last five NHL contests to stay
relevant in the race for a wild-card berth in the Eastern
Conference.
Hammond is to 6-0-1 since injuries to Ottawa starter Craig Anderson
and backup Robin Lehner forced him into action.
Kyle Turris, Bobby Ryan and Erik Condra scored for Ottawa.
Michael Frolik netted his 14th goal for Winnipeg (32-21-12).
