[March 05, 2015]  March 4 (The Sports Xchange) - Longtime NBA guard Ray Allen announced on Wednesday that he will not play this season.

"Over the past several months, I have taken a lot of time to deliberate what is best for me. I've ultimately decided that I will not play this NBA season," he said in a statement released by his agent.

Allen, 39, said he will spend the rest of the year reassessing whether he will play in 2015-16.

The league's career leader with 2,973 3-pointers, Allen had been pursued by several teams, including the Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook, wearing a clear protective mask in his return Wednesday night, said he is not hurrying back from a facial fracture that required surgery.

At the Wednesday morning shootaround, Westbrook's face still was swollen after he was accidentally kneed in the side of the head Friday night. Westbrook dismissed the notion that he is coming back too soon as the Thunder face the Philadelphia 76ers.

"Nah, I think my health is more important than that," he said.

Westbrook, 26, missed the Thunder's previous game Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers following a procedure to address a fractured zygomatic arch, the bone that connects the eye socket to the cheekbone.

Recent comments by New York Knicks president Phil Jackson reportedly cost his team some money.

According to a Yahoo Sports report Tuesday night, the NBA fined the Knicks an undisclosed amount in response to Jackson's remarks after he watched Ohio State play Nebraska on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio.

After the game, he told Cleveland.com that Buckeyes freshman guard D'Angelo Russell is a "great looking kid, (a) great prospect". NBA rules prohibit employees from commenting on college underclassmen.
