[March 06, 2015]  WASHINGTON -- Veteran right winger Jason Pominville netted two third-period goals 5:09 apart, leading the Minnesota Wild to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on a snowy Thursday night.

The win was the Wild's fourth straight and improved their record since the All-Star break to a league-best 15-2-1. Minnesota moved past the Winnipeg Jets and into the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference, five points ahead of the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks, who are tied for ninth place.

The Capitals were playing without NHL leading goal scorer Alex Ovechkin, who was sidelined for the first time this season due to a lower-body injury. Left winger Curtis Glencross scored the lone goal for the Capitals, who were thwarted by Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk's 24 saves.

Flyers 3, Blues 1

PHILADELPHIA -- Defenseman Michael Del Zotto and right winger Wayne Simmonds scored less than two minutes apart in the third period to lead Philadelphia to a win over St. Louis.

Flyers goaltender Steve Mason and Blues netminder Brian Elliott went toe-to-toe, with each making 28 saves in the game.

St. Louis center Jaden Schwartz opened the scoring and Fylers left winger Michael Raffl added an empty-net goal with just over a minute to play to seal the win.

Flames 4, Bruins 3 (SO)

BOSTON -- Defenseman David Schlemko, playing his first game with his third NHL team of the season, scored a fancy goal in the eighth round of the shootout, giving Calgary a shootout decision over Boston.

Centers Sean Monahan and Jiri Hudler and left winger Johnny Gaudreau scored regulation goals for the Flames, who were playing the fifth of seven straight on the road. Hudler also had an assist and defensemen Kris Russell and Dennis Wideman both had two assists as the Flames improved to 13-4 in extra time this season. Flames goalie Karri Ramo, who came in with a 1.87 goals-against average in the first four games on the trip, stopped 34 shots.

Left wingers Brad Marchand and Milan Lucic and right winger Loui Eriksson scored for the Bruins, while goalie Tuukka Rask made 29 saves in the losing effort.

Lightning 4, Maple Leafs 2

TAMPA, Fla. -- Scoring two goals in the first period and two in the third, Tampa Bay beat Toronto for its 14th victory in the past 16 home games.

Tampa Bay goalie Ben Bishop stopped 25 shots to earn his 32nd win of the season, playing with confidence after the Lightning took the lead in the first five minutes. Right wingers Nikita Kucherov and Ryan Callahan and centers Vladislav Namestnikov and Alex Killorn scored for the Lightning.

Left winger David Book and right winger Richard Panik scored for Toronto.

Stars 4, Panthers 3 (SO)

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Center Colton Sceviour, in the third and final round of the shootout, scored the only goal of the session, converting on a backhand move as Dallas edged Florida.

Defenseman Alex Goligoski, left winger Curtis McKenzie and center Shawn Horcoff scored in regulation for Dallas.

Florida lost in its first game this season with goalie Dan Ellis, who was called up from the AHL after injuries to All-Star Roberto Luongo and backup Al Montoya.

Center Brandon Pirri, defenseman Dmitry Kulikov and left winger Jonathan Huberdeau scored in regulation for Florida.

Islanders 4, Predators 3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Center Brock Nelson's goal with 6:08 left gave the New York Islanders a wild win over Nashville at Bridgestone Arena.

Centers John Tavares and Anders Lee and defenseman Nick Leddy also scored for New York, which had lost four of its previous six.

Centers Colin Wilson, Mike Ribeiro and Craig Smith all scored for Nashville.

Coyotes 3, Canucks 2 (SO)

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Goalie Mike Smith made 32 saves and center Sam Gagner scored the lone goal in the shootout as Arizona avoided setting a franchise-record losing streak, beating Vancouver.

Left wingers Tobias Rieder and right winger B.J. Crombeen scored in regulation for Arizona, helping end the Coyotes' 10-game losing streak, which was the longest since the team moved to the Valley and tied two such streaks set while the team was still in Winnipeg.

Left winger Chris Higgins and right winger Radim Vrbata scored for Vancouver, which moved into sixth place in the Western Conference standings with 76 points.

Kings 4, Canadiens 3 (SO)

LOS ANGELES -- Shootout goals by centers Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter and right winger Marian Gaborik lifted Los Angeles over Montreal. Gaborik, who had two goals in regulation, forced the extra session by scoring on a power play with 45 seconds left in the third period. It was Gaborik's 19th of the season.

Left winger Max Pacioretty's 31st goal of the season, on a beautiful feed from center David Desharnais at 7:12 of the third period, gave the Canadiens a 3-2 lead, but they couldn't hold it. Desharnais and Pacioretty also scored for the Canadiens in the shootout.

 



Goalie Jonathan Quick recorded 15 saves for the Kings, who won their second straight. Goaltender Dustin Tokarski stopped 26 of 29 shots for Montreal, which dropped its third in a row.
