Coach Patrick Roy confirmed the news Friday. MacKinnon could return
this season if the Avalanche make the playoffs.
MacKinnon hurt his foot blocking a shot Feb. 22 against the Tampa
Bay Lightning, but X-rays came back negative. He hurt the foot again
Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and an MRI Thursday
revealed the fracture.
MacKinnon, 19, has 14 goals and 38 points in 64 games. He scored the
winning goal in the Avalanche's 3-1 defeat of the Penguins.

Nashville Predators forward Eric Nystrom will miss four weeks with a
lower-body injury, the team announced Friday.
Nystrom was injured Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils and did
not play Thursday against the New York Islanders.
In his second season with the Predators, Nystrom has seven goals and
12 points in 60 games.

The Boston Bruins signed defenseman Torey Krug to a one-year
contract extension and forward Reilly Smith to a two-year extension.
Krug is signed through the 2015-16 season at a cap figure of $3.4
million and Smith through the 2016-17 season at an annual cap figure
of $3.425 million.
In 58 games this season, the 23-year-old Krug has recorded 11 goals
and 31 points.
Smith has competed in all of the Bruins' 62 games this season,
registering 12 goals and 23 assists.

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed forward Nick Moutrey to a
three-year, entry-level contract.
Moutrey, 19, was the Blue Jackets' fourth-round pick in the 2013
draft.
He has registered 20 goals, 35 assists in 54 games with the Saginaw
Spirit and North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League this
season.

The Winnipeg Jets recalled forward Eric O'Dell from the St. John's
IceCaps of the American Hockey League.
O'Dell, 24, has played in 37 games this season with the IceCaps,
collecting 29 points (14 goals) and 34 penalty minutes. He appeared
in one game for the Jets during a recent recall.

The Buffalo Sabres recalled goaltender Andrey Makarov from the
Rochester Americans of the AHL.
Makarov, 21, joins the Sabres for his third career NHL recall after
being signed by Buffalo as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that goaltending coach Jeff Reese
is no longer with the team.
"It was a mutual agreement between both parties," general manager
Ron Hextall said in a statement. "Jeff was an integral part of our
coaching staff for the past six seasons and we wish him well."
