			- Melvin E. Mason, 98, of Atlanta, died on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at 
			8:35 a.m. at Hopedale Commons West in Hopedale.

							Obituary 
							Mr. Melvin E. Mason, 98, of Atlanta, died on Sunday, 
							March 1, 2015, at 8:35 a.m. at Hopedale Commons West 
							in Hopedale. 
							 
							Funeral services for Mr. Mason will be held on 
							Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 12:00 p.m. at 
							Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Mr. Tony 
							Billingsley will officiate. 
							 
							Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Emden with 
							military rites accorded by the Atlanta American 
							Legion Post #341. 
							 
							Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 
							p.m. on Saturday, prior to the funeral service. 
							 
							Melvin E. Mason was born December 28, 1916, in 
							McLean, the son of Carl and Sarah Elizabeth Barlow 
							Mason. He married Charlotte Schacht on January 15, 
							1949, in Pekin. She preceded him in death on 
							November 23, 2004.  
							 
							Mr. Mason is survived by his sons: Michael (Kay) 
							Mason of Emden and Kevin (Laura) Mason of 
							Naperville; two brothers: Lyle Mason and Donald 
							(Lucy) Mason of Bloomington; and four grandchildren: 
							Melinda (Terry) Anderson of Hartsburg, Brent Mason 
							of Emden, Christopher and Matthew Mason of 
							Naperville. 
							 
							He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte and 
							one brother: Chester Mason.  | 
							
							 
                
                  
							Melvin served in the Army during WWII in the 5th 
							Armored Division from 1941 to 1945. He was a member 
							of American Legion Post #341 of Atlanta.  
							 
							In addition to grain and cattle farming, he was a 68 
							year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters 
							and Joiners of America (Local 237 Peoria). He worked 
							at the Lincoln Developmental Center for 38 years as 
							a carpenter. He had a particular skill at modifying 
							wheel chairs and assistive devices to fit the 
							patients' needs. Melvin raised cattle for many years 
							and was a 1996 Breeder of the Year recipient from 
							the Illinois Salers Association. 
							 
							Memorials may be made to Hopedale Commons West or 
							McLean Christian Church. 
							 
							Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley 
							Funeral Home of Atlanta.
