Tibbs wins second place in American Legion High School Oratorical Semi-finals

[March 12, 2015]  LINCOLN - On Saturday, March 7th, 2015 Lincoln Community High School sophomore Reagen Tibbs competed in the Illinois American Legion High School Oratorical Program Constitutional Speech Contest.

The contest was held in Peoria, at the Peoria Capital Convention Center.

The purpose of this contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States among high school students.

Reagen had to present an 8-10 minute prepared speech on some aspect of the Constitution of the United States with emphasis on the duties and obligations of a citizen to our government. His speech was titled “What Can We Do for Our Country.” He also had to prepare a three to five minutes speech on an assigned topic with only five minutes to prepare. Reagen’s assigned topic was Amendment 6 - Right to Speedy Trial, Confrontation of Witnesses.

Reagen received second place in the Semi-finals, winning a certificate and a $450 scholarship. He was sponsored by the American Legion Post 263 of Lincoln.
