LCU announces five faculty promotions

[March 13, 2015]  LINCOLN - Lincoln Christian University (LCU) President Don Green, DMin, is pleased to announce the promotion of five full-time faculty members, effective June 1, 2015.

Michael Gowin has been promoted to the rank of Professor of Business Administration. Since becoming an employee of LCU in 1997, he has progressively contributed to his field of study and to. Michael is an entrepreneur, consultant and small business owner. His depth of experience shows in the undergraduate business administration classes he teaches.

Gowin is active in the community and currently serves as a board member of the Logan County Alliance. He and his wife, Suzanne, have adopted six children from Ethiopia since 2010, bringing the total number of children they are raising to nine. A former student said about Michael, “He has a unique blend of faithfulness, instructional ability and business expertise.”

Larry Roberts has been promoted to Associate Professor of Psychology. Larry became an employee of LCU in January, 2000, as a tutor in the Academic Resource Center working with at risk students. He began teaching as an interim professor in the General Education field and later as interim professor in LCU’s psychology department. Roberts was hired as an Assistant Professor with Faculty status in 2010. Though program director for the undergraduate psychology degree program, he also teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses in the psychology and counseling departments at Lincoln Christian University. He has proven to be a valued mentor, advisor, and leader for Lincoln Christian University.

Roberts was recently nominated to serve on the Board of Directors for Heart to Heart Support Services (a not-for-profit organization counseling through a Christian worldview) and nominated to serve on the Board of Directors for The Friendship Center (a senior center in Clinton, IL).

Dr. Christopher Ben Simpson has been promoted to Professor at Lincoln Christian University. He became a full-time faculty member in 2005 in the field of Philosophical Theology and teaches both undergraduate and seminary classes at LCU. He earned a PhD in Theology from the University of Nottingham in 2008. Since 2009, he has published four books, written several essays, and edited three volumes of collected essays. Dr. Simpson is active in presenting papers at academic conferences in his field of study. He is currently the editor of an international journal (Radical Orthodoxy: Theology, Philosophy, Politics) and an editor in the Kalos and Veritas book series.

He is a professor who is respected and sought-after by students. LCU students appreciate the way he encourages critical thought, creativity and the freedom to explore areas of personal interest within the boundaries of a given class, creating a space that allows for students to thoroughly and fruitfully grapple with their own questions.

Eric Teoro has been promoted to Professor of Business Administration. Teoro was first employed as an adjunct professor in the Business Administration program in 1997 and was engaged as a full-time faculty member and program director in 2001. In 2014, he became the editor for an annually published business ethics textbook, Annual Editions: Business Ethics, published by McGraw-Hill. He is an active member of the Christian Business Faculty Association and has served on the Academic Advisory Boards for several published textbooks. Eric is looking forward to completing his dissertation for his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business from Northcentral University in the near future.

Current students described Teoro in this way, “He conducts himself in a right matter and truly cares for his students because he is continually cultivating a Godly character. He never lets us lose sight of who we are as believers in Christ. He models for us how our professional life is an extension of our faith.”

Dr. C. Nolan Thomas has been promoted to Associate Professor at Lincoln Christian Seminary. When Dr. Thomas came to LCU in 2010, he came with over 30 years of ministry experience and 18 years of experience in community and school counseling. In addition to work as a pastoral counselor, he also functioned as a school psychologist. He has two earned doctorates, the first a PhD in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and the second, a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) from Phillips Graduate Seminary. Dr. Thomas was instrumental in obtaining Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) Accreditation for LCU Seminary’s MA in Counseling program. As a result, Lincoln Christian University has been listed as one of the best master's in counseling programs on the college planning website, BestColleges.com.
