[March 13, 2015]  LINCOLN - Biggest Loser Finalist, Sonya Jones, will be speaking at Ladies’ Night Out planned for Friday, April 17 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. The event is sponsored by ALMH, Healthy Communities Partnership and the ALMH Auxiliary.

“As we continue our efforts to spread the message about healthy habits, we are thrilled to host Ladies’ Night Out and feature Sonya Jones. She is such an inspiration to those who are making changes to their lifestyles to improve their health,” said Angela Stoltzenburg, Healthy Communities Partnership manager.

It has been no secret that Logan County was named the most overweight/obese county in the state of Illinois, with over 30 percent of Logan County residents classified as obese. Healthy Communities Partnership has been leading the charge to improve the health of our community in a variety of ways. Efforts have included the 5-2-1-0 obesity prevention program promoting a daily lifestyle of 5 fruits and vegetables, no more than 2 hours of screen time, at least 1 hour of activity and 0 sugary sweetened beverages.

Now Healthy Communities Partnership is partnering with ALMH and the ALMH Auxiliary to host a night out for women to celebrate healthy lifestyles. Sonya Jones was a finalist on Season 16 of the The Biggest Loser. Jones was motivated to go on The Biggest Loser to lose weight, get healthy and feel good about herself. Jones was overweight her entire life but when she found out she was borderline diabetic she had a real wake-up call. During the course of the show, Jones lost over 140 pounds.

The night will also include hors d’oevres, a healthy cooking demonstration from Chef Justin Cooper of Cooper’s StrEATside Bistro and a discussion about leading your family through change by central Illinois working mom, Angelia Foster.

“We look forward to a night of education and inspiration. Women have a tremendous impact on their families but they need to take care of themselves before they can take care of everyone else. HCP, ALMH and the ALMH Auxiliary are thrilled to provide this opportunity to local women,” said Stoltzenburg.
