ATLANTA
- Ellen Marie Bumba (nee Rich), 74, of Atlanta, died peacefully in
her home on Thursday, March 12, 2015, after a long battle with
cancer. As in life, she was blessed to spend her final days
surrounded by loved ones.

Obituary
ATLANTA - Ellen Marie Bumba (nee Rich), 74, of
Atlanta, died peacefully in her home on Thursday,
March 12, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. As
in life, she was blessed to spend her final days
surrounded by loved ones.
Ellen was born to the late Charles and Helen Rich.
She graduated from Mendota High School and received
her bachelor's and master's degrees from Northern
Illinois University. Ellen was appointed by former
Illinois Governor Jim Thompson to serve on the
Selective Service Board from 1982-1992. She was a
middle and high school history teacher in Amboy and
also taught at the Illinois Math and Science Academy
in Aurora before retiring in 1991.
Ellen was the beloved wife of Richard Bumba; dear
sister of Frank (Helen) Rich of Princeton and Irene
(Lee) Christiansen of Oswego; and further survived
by five children: Scott (Lynn) Bumba of Schaumburg,
Ronda (Colvin) Lewis of Senoia, Ga., Jenny Bumba of
Dixon, Alicia (Kenny) Haller of Chicago, and
Jonathan (Cynthia) Bumba of Austin, Tex. She is also
survived by 11 grandchildren: Morgan Spaeth, Jessica
Gibbs, Cheyenne Lavallie, Brett Lewis, Paige Lewis,
Ethan Haller, Grayson Bumba, Zander Bumba, Jeremy
Meaker, Jessica Meaker, Jennifer Meaker; and five
great-grandchildren: Landon Dollar, Gage Bell,
Gabriella Bell, Jayden Flores and Kaleb Flores. |
The family would like to express immeasurable
gratitude to Kelly Davis and April Vonderheide from,
Safe Haven Hospice in Lincoln, for providing loving
care to Ellen during her illness. In lieu of
flowers, a memorial may be made to the Wounded
Warrior Project at
www.wounded warriorproject.org in memory
of Ellen’s five brothers who proudly served in the
armed forces.
A private memorial service will be held at a later
date.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home of Atlanta.
