03/14/2015 NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Wallace, Mike
WR Mike Wallace was traded from the Dolphins to the Vikings Friday
(March 13) with a seventh-round pick in this year's draft for a
fifth-round pick.
The Vikings had pursued Wallace in 2013 and reportedly offered more
money than the Dolphins, but he chose the warmer climate of South
Florida over frigid Minnesota winters.
He lasted just two seasons of his five-year, $60 million contract
with the Dolphins and will count $6.6 million against their salary
cap in 2015.
Wallace had two 1,000-yard seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who
drafted him in the first round in 2009. But, with Miami, he recorded
73 receptions for 930 yards and five touchdowns in 2013 and 67
catches for 862 yards and 10 scores in 2014.
Wallace allegedly was unhappy with his role in Miami and ended up on
the bench in the 2014 season finale after arguing with coaches.
In Minnesota, Wallace will join veteran receiver Greg Jennings,
Charles Johnson and tight end Kyle Rudolph as second-year
quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's weapons.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Oakland Raiders Ponder, Christian
QB Christian Ponder left the Vikings for the Raiders Friday (March
13), agreeing to terms on a one-year contract.
The move reunites Ponder with Bill Musgrave, who coached him in
Minnesota and is now the Raiders' offensive coordinator under new
coach Jack Del Rio.
Ponder was drafted 12th overall by the Vikings in 2011 and started
36 games in his four seasons in Minnesota. He completed 59.8 percent
of his passes for 6,658 yards, 38 touchdowns and 36 interceptions.
The Vikings essentially gave up on him in 2013, when they signed
Josh Freeman at midseason. But Freeman was gone after 2013 and the
Vikings used their second first-rounder in four years on a
quarterback when they selected Teddy Bridgewater. Ponder ended up
falling to third on the depth chart behind Bridgewater and Matt
Cassel.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Buffalo Bills Harvin, Percy
WR Percy Harvin, recently released by the Jets, agreed to terms on a
one-year contract with the Bills Friday (March 13).
The 49ers reportedly made a late push to sign him, but Harvin chose
the Bills' $6 million offer, per NFL Media.
The Bills will be Harvin's fourth team in three years after the New
York Jets released him Tuesday rather than pay his $10.5 million
salary for 2015.
Harvin, 26, was a first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings but was
traded twice in the past three years -- to the Seattle Seahawks in
2013 and then from the Seahawks to the Jets last October.
Harvin is the second controversial player new Bills coach Rex Ryan
has signed, joining guard Richie Incognito.
The Seahawks traded Harvin amid reports of the receiver's
insubordination and infighting. Injuries limited him to just six
games with the Seahawks. Ryan coached Harvin last year with the
Jets.
He finished the 2014 season with 29 catches for 350 yards and a
touchdown and has 332 catches for 3,802 yards and 31 total
touchdowns in his six-year career.
Wide receiver Sammy Watkins tweeted about the news (edited): "We got
Percy_Harvin. That's who I always tried to play like on the field.
Now I'm ballin with him."
Cornerback Antonio Cromartie, who just reunited with Darrelle Revis
with the New York Jets, noticed the move by their AFC East foes as
well, although he did not seem overly impressed.
He tweeted a picture of himself and Revis smiling during their
previous tenure as Jets and said: "Sammy Watkins and Percy Harvin?
Lol. That's nice."
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - San Diego Chargers Wilson, Jimmy
S Jimmy Wilson left the Dolphins for the Chargers Friday (March 13),
agreeing to terms on a two-year contract.
Wilson, a San Diego native, spent the past four seasons with the
Dolphins, where he started 21 of 60 games and accumulated 153
tackles, four interceptions and two sacks.
After Wilson was drafted in the seventh round by the Dolphins in
2011, he has played mostly safety and nickel back. Last season, he
started 13 games and had a career-best 58 tackles and one
interception.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Denver Broncos Smith, Shelley
G Shelly Smith, who was released by the Dolphins March 10, agreed to
terms with the Broncos Friday (March 13) on a two-year contract.
The deal will be worth $5.65 million, according to ESPN's Adam
Schefter.
Smith visited the Seattle Seahawks before flying to Denver.
It will be a double homecoming for Smith, who played at Colorado
State before being drafted in the sixth round in 2010 by the Houston
Texans, then coached by Gary Kubiak, who is now the Broncos' coach.
Smith has played in 36 games and started 11 over the past three
years with the St. Louis Rams (2012-13) and Dolphins.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Oakland Raiders Dockery, James
CB James Dockery left the Panthers for the Raiders Friday (March
13). Dockery is joining the Raiders after spending the past three
seasons in the secondary of the Panthers.
Last year, Dockery was re-signed by the Panthers in October after
being one of the team's final cuts in training camp. In seven games,
the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder recorded 10 tackles. In 2013, he missed 11
games with a shoulder injury.
Dockery, 26, has 30 tackles in 31 games for the Panthers and
Cleveland Browns since he entered the league in 2011 as an undrafted
free agent out of Oregon State.

NFL Note - Kansas City Chiefs Gordon, Richard
TE Richard Gordon re-signed with the Chiefs Friday (March 13).
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Kansas City Chiefs McCray, Kelcie
S Kelcie McCray, who wasn't tendered as a restricted free agent,
re-signed with the Chiefs Friday (March 13).
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Denver Broncos Stewart, Darian
S Darian Stewart left the Ravens for the Broncos Friday (March 13),
agreeing to terms on a two-year contract and will likely replace
Rahim Moore.
Moore signed with the Houston Texans on Thursday, and the Broncos
moved quickly to replace him with Stewart, who has started 33 games
for the St. Louis Rams (2010-13) and Baltimore Ravens (2014).
"I feel like I'm the final piece to the puzzle," Stewart said
Friday. "The secondary, they're one of the tops in the league and I
felt like they can get it done out there. We have a great
organization and we have the personnel in place to get it done."
Stewart started 14 games for the Ravens last season, recording 53
tackles, one interception, four passes defensed and one forced
fumble.
"The Ravens' organization, they treated me right," Stewart said. "I
have nothing but respect for that organization. I was proud to be a
Raven, but now I'm proud to be a Bronco and I'm looking forward to
it. I feel like me getting to the playoffs and me getting that
experience, it helped me a lot. I'm just ready to get back, and this
time finish it."
Stewart is looking forward to playing alongside Broncos safety T.J.
Ward.
"I think we will work together just fine," Stewart said. "Me and
T.J. came out (of college) the same year. ... He's a thumper and I
think I add to their bunch. It's great with my versatility, playing
back deep and getting the ball."
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Pittsburgh Steelers Roethlisberger, Ben
QB Ben Roethlisberger agreed to terms of a new five-year contract
with the Steelers Friday (March 13). The deal is worth a reported
$99 million.
Roethlisberger was in the final year of an eight-year, $102 million
deal and was set to make $11.6 million in 2015. Roethlisberger, 33,
has led the Steelers to two Super Bowl victories (and a loss) in 11
seasons as their quarterback.
He had one of his best seasons in 2014, setting career highs by
completing 67.1 percent of his passes for 4,952 yards and 32
touchdowns. The Steelers lost a home wild-card game to the Baltimore
Ravens to conclude the season.
At a press conference announcing the deal Friday, Steelers president
Art Rooney II stressed the importance keeping the franchise
quarterback so the team can contend for more titles.
"Having Ben has been a great run that we've had," he said, "so we're
really excited to continue the opportunity that having a player like
Ben gives us to be competitive and to try and compete for
championships. There's no other way to do it these days in the
league."
Roethlisberger said, "This is where I want to be, and I'm just happy
that I can be here. Our first and foremost goal is winning Lombardi
Trophies. I think we've got a good young football team with a lot of
talent and a lot of ability, and that's what I said coming over
here: Is there room in that trophy case for more trophies? Because
that's got to be our goal."
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Dallas Cowboys McFadden, Darren
RB Darren McFadden left the Raiders for the Cowboys Friday (march
13), one after DeMarco Murray left Dallas for the Eagles. The
two-year contract is worth $5.85 million and includes a $200,000
signing bonus.
McFadden spent his first seven seasons with the Oakland Raiders but
had only 1,249 total touches because of durability issues. He is a
downhill, one-cut runner with good size and speed, similar to
Murray.
While the argument that McFadden never had a great offensive line
holds water, the bigger factor in Oakland might have been injuries.
He had 155 carries for 534 yards and 36 receptions for 212 yards in
2014. He played in all 16 games for the first time in his career but
had as many as 15 carries just once and only one run longer than 17
yards.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Buffalo Bills Williams, Kyle
DT Kyle Williams agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension
with the Bills Friday (March 13) that takes him through the 2017
seasons.
The deal reportedly is for $10.5 million. Williams, 31, is set to
make $4.8 million next season and $7 million in 2016.
The 31-year-old Williams, a four-time Pro Bowler (2010, 2012, 2013,
2014), is the longest tenured Bill and will enter his 10th season
with the team. In 2014, Williams played in 15 games for the Bills
while racking up 41 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hits and
eight tackles for loss. He has tallied 34.5 sacks in his career --
the most by any defensive tackle in team history.
A 6-foot-1, 303-pound LSU product, Williams originally entered the
NFL in 2006 as a fifth-round pick (134th overall) by the Bills.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Washington Redskins Culliver, Chris
CB Chris Culliver left the 49ers for the Redskins Friday (March 13),

a $5 million signing bonus and $16 million guaranteed

after being taken in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. The
6-foot, 199-pound Culliver compiled 121 tackles, seven
interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 46
career games with 20 starts for the 49ers and appeared in Super Bowl
XLVII.
Culliver, 26, came back from a torn ACL, and established career
highs in starts (14), tackles (45), interceptions (four) and passes
defensed (14) in 2014.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Miami Dolphins Stills, Kenny
WR Kenny Stills was traded by the Saints to the Dolphins Friday
(March 13) for LB Dannell Ellerbe and a third-round draft choice.
"We are excited that we were able to acquire Kenny Stills," said
Dolphins General Manager Dennis Hickey. "He is a talented, young and
ascending player who has been very productive in his first two
seasons in the league."
The 6-0, 194-pound Stills joins Miami after spending the previous
two seasons (2013-14) with New Orleans. He was originally a
fifth-round selection (144th overall) of the Saints in the 2013 NFL
draft. In his career, he has played in 31 regular season games with
16 starts and also has appeared in two playoff games with one start.
He has recorded 95 receptions for 1,572 receiving yards (16.5 avg.)
and eight touchdowns to go along with four rushing attempts for
eight yards. His 16.5 average yards per reception in his career is
ninth-best in the NFL since he entered the league in 2013 and his
20.0 average per catch in his rookie campaign topped the NFL.
In 2014, Stills played in 15 games with six starts and notched 63
receptions for 931 receiving yards (14.8 average) and three
touchdown receptions. His 63 receptions and 931 receiving yards were
both career highs and his 931 yards led New Orleans. Further, Stills
caught 63 of the 84 passes thrown his way and his 75.0 percent of
targets caught tied Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry for the
second-highest percentage among wide receivers in the NFL with a
minimum of 50 receptions.

with Baltimore. In his career, he has played in 62 games with 30
starts and tallied 273 tackles (203 solo), 6.5 sacks, three
interceptions, nine passes defensed, one forced fumble and three
fumble recoveries. In 2014, he was placed on injured reserve

guaranteed.
Spiller, 5-11, 200 pounds, is a five-year NFL veteran who was the
ninth pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills out of
Clemson. In five seasons in Buffalo, Spiller appeared in 70 games
with 36 starts and carried 668 times for 3,321 yards (5.0 avg.) with
12 touchdowns. He caught 158 passes for 1,195 yards with six
touchdowns. On special teams, Spiller returned 16 punts for 302
yards (12.1 avg.) and has brought back 60 kickoffs for 1,463 yards

with a collarbone injury.

in 2012 when he played in all 16 games with nine starts and carried
207 times for 1,244 yards (6.0 avg.) with six touchdowns and also
tallied 459 receiving yards on 43 catches with two scoring grabs. He
finished third in the NFL in yards per carry, sixth in total yards
from scrimmage (1,703) and eighth in rushing yards and was selected
to the Pro Bowl.

The 6-foot-7, 270-pound Johnson, who spent his first five NFL

Johnson's deal with the Bengals is worth $20 million with $6 million
due in 2015.
"I'm thankful for the Buccaneers giving me an opportunity to come

highs and the lows. You can't appreciate the highs without the lows.
"This last year was a character-building year. I don't count it as a

Draft.
Gachkar, 26, has totaled 120 tackles and two sacks, playing in 63 of
64 games, in the last four seasons. He started five contests in
2014, recording 49 tackles and one sack over 15 games.
Gachkar tweeted the news Sunday: "Proud to announce I'm going to be

-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Pittsburgh Steelers Williams, DeAngelo
RB DeAngelo Williams, the Carolina Panthers' career rushing leader,
signed a two-year deal with the Steelers on Friday.
"Excited about signing with the Steelers!" tweeted Williams, who was
released by the Panthers on Tuesday. "Trust me when I say that I've
got a LOT of gas left in the tank."
Williams, 31, figures to back up Le'Veon Bell, the AFC's leading
rusher in 2014 with 1,361 yards.
Williams is Carolina's all-time leader with 6,846 rushing yards,
1,432 rushing attempts, 46 rushing touchdowns and 18 games with 100
or more rushing yards.
Injuries limited Williams to six games for Carolina in 2014.
Williams rushed for 219 yards on 62 carries and totaled five
receptions for 44 yards. Williams played in two postseason games,
rushing for 30 yards on six carries and recording two catches for

-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - St. Louis Rams Fairley, Nick
DT Nick Fairley left the Lions for the Rams Friday (March 13),
agreeing to terms on one-year, $5 million contract.
With Fairley in the mix, the Rams feature five first-round picks on
their defensive line -- ends Chris Long and Robert Quinn and tackles
Michael Brockers and Aaron Donald, along with Fairley, a
first-rounder in 2011 who played 46 games with the Detroit Lions.
The Auburn standout was the 13th overall pick.
"You've got those guys up there and a guy next to me like Aaron
that's going to basically take on some double teams, I'm going to
take on some double teams," Fairley said at a press conference at
the team's Earth City, Mo., headquarters. "So, it's going to be a
good fit for me."
The Lions declined the fifth-year option on his contract and made no
attempt to bring him back after losing defensive tackle Ndamukong
Suh and trading for Haloti Ngata.
"They didn't pick it up," Fairley said. "It's just the nature of the
business to me. I just took it and ran with it."
Fairley was injured in Week 8 and did not practice again until
January when the Lions were preparing for their wild-card playoff
game against the Dallas Cowboys. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew
said last month that Fairley's knee injury would not be a long-term
issue.
Fairley's deal includes $3 million in incentives, per reports, which
could give him a chance to make $8 million in 2015 and then return
to free agency in March 2016. One reason the Rams might have
preferred a short-term deal -- Fairley has struggled to maintain a
healthy playing weight for much of his pro career.
"I don't feel like I have anything to prove," Fairley said. "It's a
new start for me. I'm just ready to start. (I'm going to) get here
in April and get ready for these offseason workouts."

registering 129 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. He
also added 14 special teams tackles.
