NEW YORK -- Goaltender Cam Talbot made 38 saves as the New York Rangers maintained their grip on the top spot in the league with a 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Since starting goaltender Henrik Lundqvist left the lineup with a neck injury Feb. 2, the Rangers are 15-2-3. Talbot is 13-2-3 over that span.

Left winger James Sheppard and defenseman Matt Hunwick scored for the Rangers. New York (44-17-7) held a two-point lead in the race for the Presidents' Trophy pending Sunday's late games.

Goaltender Dan Ellis stopped 32 shots for the Panthers, who are battling the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins for the final playoff spots in the East.

Left winger Brandon Pirri scored for Florida (31-24-14).

Blues 3, Stars 0

DALLAS -- St. Louis right winger Vladimir Tarasenko scored his 34th goal of the season and backup goaltender Jake Allen stopped all 28 shots he faced to earn his fourth shutout of the season as the Blues blanked Dallas at American Airlines Center.

St. Louis also received insurance goals from left winger Alexander Steen, who scored on the power play with 3:15 remaining, and right winger T.J. Oshie, who scored an empty-netter with 1:56 remaining.

Steen had a goal and an assist and Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo two assists.

Red Wings 5, Penguins 1

PITTSBURGH -- Left winger Teemu Pulkkinen scored twice and defenseman Marek Zidlicky had a goal and two assists as Detroit broke out of a funk with a win against Pittsburgh at Consol Energy Center.

Left winger Henrik Zetterberg added a goal and an assist, and center Riley Sheahan also scored for Detroit, which had lost two games in a row and was 1-4 in its previous five games.

Detroit chased Penguins starting goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury in the second period, after he allowed four goals on 16 shots while winger David Perron scored the Penguins' lone goal.

Hurricanes 3, Blue Jackets 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Defenseman Justin Faulk, defenseman Ron Hainsey and fourth-line center Brad Malone scored seconds-period goals, and Carolina beat Columbus for just its second win in seven games.

Goaltender Anton Khudobin had 22 saves for the Hurricanes, who had been 1-4-1 since Feb. 28, including a 4-3 shootout loss to Columbus five days earlier.

The Blue Jackets got goals from left winger Nick Foligno and right winger Scott Hartnell, while goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky had 24 saves.

Senators 2, Flyers 1 (SO)

OTTAWA -- Andrew Hammond continued his run into the NHL record books Sunday night at Canadian Tire Centre. The goalie stopped 27 shots through overtime and all three he faced in the shootout, and winger Bobby Ryan scored the only goal in the tiebreaking skills contest to give Ottawa a victory over Philadelphia.

Hammond became the second goalie in NHL history to give up two or fewer goals in each of his first 11 games as a starter. Boston Bruins netminder Frank Brimsek holds the record of 12 games, set in 1938. Hammond still has yet to lose a game in regulation time, compiling a 10-0-1 record since taking over the job as Ottawa's main goalie after injuries to Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner.

Center Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored in regulation for the Senators (33-24-11), while winger Jakub Voracek replied for the Flyers (29-27-15).

Capitals 2, Bruins 0

WASHINGTON -- Goaltender Braden Holtby made 22 saves and goals from defensemen John Carlson and Nate Schmidt helped Washington top Boston.

The Capitals (37-23-10) moved them into sole possession of the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Bruins (36-23-10) saw their 7-0-1 points streak end with the loss, which dropped them two points behind the Capitals with one game in hand. The Bruins are now five points ahead of the Ottawa Senators in the hunt for the final playoff spot in the East.

Ducks 4, Predators 2

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The comeback quacks were deafening at Honda Center once again, as Anaheim defeated Nashville after trailing 2-0 at the second intermission. Their rally allowed them to surpass Calgary for the league-lead in games won when falling behind after 40 minutes.

Centers Ryan Getzlaf and Nate Thompson scored for Anaheim, as did right winger Kyle Palmieri and defenseman Cam Fowler. Left winger Taylor Beck and defenseman Roman Josi tallied for Nashville.

Rookie goalie John Gibson earned the win with 25 saves while the Predators turned to Pekka Rinne for 24 stops in defeat.
