[March 16, 2015]  March 15 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Sunday's National Hockey League games.

Rangers 2, Panthers 1

Goaltender Cam Talbot made 38 saves as the New York Rangers maintained their grip on top spot in the league with a 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers.

Since starting goaltender Henrik Lundqvist left the lineup with a neck injury Feb. 2, the Rangers are 15-2-3.

James Sheppard and defenseman Matt Hunwick scored for the Rangers (44-17-7).

Goaltender Dan Ellis stopped 32 shots for the Panthers (31-24-14), who are battling the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins for the final playoff spots in the East.

Henrik Zetterberg added a goal and an assist, and Riley Sheahan also scored for Detroit (38-19-11), who had lost two games in a row and were 1-4 in their previous five.

Pittsburgh (39-20-10) lost their second game in as many days despite getting captain and leading scorer Sidney Crosby back after he missed Saturday's game against Boston because of an undisclosed ailment.

Evgeni Malkin did not play because of a lower-body injury he sustained on Saturday.

Senators 2, Flyers 1 (shootout)

Senators goalie Andrew Hammond stopped 27 shots through overtime and all three he faced in the shootout to lead Ottawa past Philadelphia 2-1.

Hammond became the second goalie in NHL history to give up two or fewer goals in each of his first 11 games as a starter. Boston Bruins netminder Frank Brimsek holds the record of 12 games, set in 1938.

Bobby Ryan scored the only goal in the shootout to lift Ottawa (33-24-11) to the win.

Hurricanes 3, Blue Jackets 2

Justin Faulk, Ron Hainsey and Brad Malone scored second period goals as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 for just their second win in seven games.

Goaltender Anton Khudobin had 22 saves for the Hurricanes, who had been 1-4-1 since Feb. 28, including a 4-3 shootout loss to Columbus five days earlier.

Ducks 4, Predators 2

The Anaheim Ducks came back from two goals down to beat the Nashville Predators 4-2, the 11th time they have fought back to win after trailing through two periods.

Ryan Getzlaf, Nate Thompson, Kyle Palmieri and Cam Fowler scored for the Ducks after Taylor Beck and Roman Josi had staked Nashville a 2-0 lead.

The loss dropped the Predators into a tie with St. Louis (44-20-5) for second place in the Western Conference, while Anaheim (44-20-7) moved two points clear at the top.

Capitals 2, Bruins 0

The Washington Capitals responded strongly after a players-only meeting with a 2-0 victory over Boston.

After a Friday night home loss to the Dallas Stars, their second in as many games, the Washington Capitals (37-23-10) closed their locker-room doors and had a discussion.

Their response, fueled by 32 saves from goaltender Braden Holtby and goals from John Carlson and Nate Schmidt, halted a two-game skid and moved them into sole possession of the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Bruins (36-23-10) dropped two points behind the Capitals with a game in hand. (Editing by Peter Rutherford)
