[March 21, 2015]  MOUNT PULASKI - Michael Lowery fouls one off for the Toppers Friday night at Lenz Field in Jacksonville. The Toppers managed only two hits in the 11-2 loss to Ottawa Marquette.

The Toppers scored a run in the first inning as Blake Collier and Brayden Curry walked and advanced on a wild pitch allowing Lowery to hit a fielder's choice setting up Blake Collier to score the first run for Mount Pulaski. Brayden Curry was on the mound for the Toppers and allowed just two hits in the first inning, but Ottawa Marquette took advantage of four walks, an error and a hit by pitch to score eight runs in the inning.

Ottawa Marquette would eventually knock Curry out of the game in the second inning as the Toppers fell behind 10-1.

The Toppers half of the third inning was much like the first in that Blake Collier and Curry walked and advanced on two wild pitches this time and set the stage for Lowery to hit a sharp single up the middle. Blake Collier scored but Curry was thrown out at home and the Toppers were still down 10-2.

Brett Huff pitched well in relief for the Toppers, only allowing one run before Beau Collier took over and pitched a scoreless sixth inning. Blake Collier's single in the top of the seventh inning would be the end of the Toppers offense on this cold night in Jacksonville.

Blake Collier finished the game 1-1 with 3 walks and 2 runs scored, while Lowery was 1-3 with a walk and 2 RBIs.

The Toppers fall to 0-3 to start the season.

The Toppers next game is Thursday in Mount Pulaski at Bob Gasaway Field versus Pawnee.
