[March 24, 2015]  March 23 (The Sports Xchange) - Pittsburgh Penguins forward Pascal Dupuis, who has not played since being diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung on Nov. 19, will not play again this season.

General manager Jim Rutherford made the announcement Monday regarding Dupuis, who has been undergoing treatment with blood thinners.

Dupuis previously was diagnosed with a blood clot in January 2014, shortly after he suffered torn ligaments in his knee. He was on blood thinners for six months while also recovering from surgery and rehabilitating his knee.

Dupuis had 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 16 games this season.

Penguins forwards Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist skated Sunday, but it remains unknown when either will be back in the lineup, according to coach Mike Johnston.

Malkin has missed the past four games because of a lower-body injury and Hornqvist (undisclosed) has been out since March 15.

The Carolina Hurricanes agreed to terms with goaltender Rasmus Tirronen on a one-year, entry-level contract.

The deal will pay Tirronen $575,000 on the NHL level or $65,000 in the minor leagues.

The Columbus Blue Jackets assigned forward Sonny Milano from the Ontario Hockey League's Plymouth Whalers to the American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons.

The Arizona Coyotes recalled forward Jordan Szwarz from the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.

The Coyotes also assigned forward Justin Hodgman to the AHL club.

The 26-year-old Hodgman has one goal and two penalty minutes in five games with the Coyotes this season.

The Buffalo Sabres recalled forward Tim Schaller from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

The 6-foot-2, 206-pound Schaller, 24, joins the team for his fourth recall of the 2014-15 season after making his NHL debut on Nov. 29 in Montreal.

New Jersey Devils forwards Reid Boucher and Stefan Matteau skated Monday morning and played against the Kings. Both were called up from AHL Albany on Saturday.

Minnesota Wild center Ryan Carter was cleared for contact, but missed his 21st game due to a separated AC joint in his shoulder.

The Ottawa Senators' Zack Smith played his first game since dislocating his wrist in Boston on Dec. 13, and he lined up on the wing rather than his usual center position. (Editing by Mark Lamport-Stokes)
