NORMAL
- With the assistance of the Bloomington Normal Community Campus
Committee and available grant funding, the Community Education
Department at Heartland is offering STEPS (Safety Training to Encourage
Profitable Services) classes at no cost during May for sellers and
servers of alcohol. The training is part of BASSET (Beverage Alcohol
Sellers and Servers Education and Training), an approved program of the
Illinois Liquor Control Commission.
|
The class focuses on educating alcohol sellers and servers on a
variety of topics including:
- Physical and psychological effects of alcohol
- Ways to discourage over consumption
- How to properly check identification cards
- Local and state laws regarding alcohol service
Community Education Coordinator, Lauren Bruggenthies-Lott, said
the class is about operating a safe business and promoting
responsible drinking. People dont always know what they are
responsible for when they sell liquor, she said. Its all about
educating and training liquor license holders how to engage in
responsible service.
Students who complete the class receive a certificate and official
BASSET identification card from the Illinois Liquor Control
Commission, which is valid for three years.
Those interested in the STEPS class can get more information and
