More than 75 Lincoln Community High School students will present their works in the Functional and Fine Arts exhibit debuting at the Lincoln Art Institute on May 6. Students have used a wide range of styles, from pop and abstract images in vibrant colors, through portraiture and ceramics to three-D designs shaped in wood or metal.

Logan County Arts to feature LCHS artists with special opening on Wednesday May 6

[May 02, 2015]  LINCOLN - Logan County Arts and the Lincoln Art Institute are currently preparing for their May exhibit, which will sponsor Functional and Fine Arts Projects by students of Lincoln Community High School. The show will debut with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at the Lincoln Art Institute, 112 S. McLean St, Lincoln, next to the US Post Office. Organizers selected the opening date to avoid conflict with the High School’s spring
musical program, which begins the next day.

Students have been working this past year with Fine Arts instructor Jennifer Grimaldi, Woodworking instructor Jason Hoffman and Metal Production instructor Arlyn Mussellman, and more than 75 students will be presenting their projects in the exhibit. Styles range from pop and abstract images in vibrant colors, through portraiture and ceramics to three-D objects shaped in wood or metal.

Art Institute Curator Moses Pinkerton commented, “This is the fourth year we have sponsored the High School Show. I think it’s an excellent opportunity for them to express themselves, to say what they feel, in an adult environment. The skills they learn will come in handy someday, and they’ll be able to look back at an experience that gave them the satisfaction of success.”

LCHS Senior Chris Deong is typical of the students in the show. This was his first art class, but he was quick to identify his favorite medium, pencil drawing. He has not participated in an art exhibition before, but said, “I think it’s very cool to be in the art show. I’ll probably do art after LCHS for fun – maybe in a job, maybe architecture.”

After opening night, the show will be available for viewing until May 23 by chance or appointment. Visitors may ring the doorbell, and if Pinkerton is available he will open the gallery. For an appointment, people may call Pinkerton at 217-651-8355.

Also available at the “Functional and Fine Arts” opening will be information on the June, 2015 show, in which LCA members will present their recent works on a “FUN!” theme.
