Lincoln Heat 10U drops one to Olympia, second called due to weather

[May 06, 2015]  LINCOLN - The Lincoln Heat 10U fell behind in the sixth inning and finished with a 5-2 loss to Olympia in the first game of a doubleheader Monday evening. The second game ended in a 4-4 tie when inclement weather forced an early call.

Game one

A tight game was decided in the sixth inning as Lincoln Heat 10U fell to Olympia 5-2 in extra innings on Monday at Breezy Field.

Wyatt O'Donoghue reached base two times in the game for Lincoln and scored one run and had one RBI. He also singled in the fourth inning.

Andy Knox baffled Olympia, striking out eight batters and allowed no earned runs on two hits and five walks in five innings.

Olympia was sparked by two players, who teamed up for three hits and two RBIs for the game.

Lincoln Heat 10U jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
 


Lincoln Heat 10U quickly matched Olympia's strong inning with a one-run inning of its own in the fourth. Lincoln Heat 10U scored on a RBI single by Wyatt O’Donoghue.

Olympia stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the sixth, scoring three runs on a RBI double, a RBI single, and a RBI triple to clinch the win.

Game two

In the second game, a battle was brewing, just as the weather was on Monday night.

At the plate, Lincoln was led by Andy Knox with two hits, including a double and Trey Schilling with two hits and two RBI’s. Bricen Gillum and Darren Stevens also had a hit in the shortened game.

Olympia battled with five hits and two RBI’s to keep the game even.

But as Lincoln was rallying with a man on second and no outs, the game was called due to lightning.

The Lincoln Heat 10U will now travel to Hopedale on Friday May 8th and will host Monticello on Saturday May 9th at the Lincoln Rec Center at 11 a.m.

The Lincoln Heat 10U is now officially 4-1 on the young season.
