05/06/2015 NFL Note - Dallas Cowboys Jones, Chris
P Chris Jones agreed to a contract extension with the Cowboys. The
deal keeps Jones in Dallas through the 2017 season.
Jones became the Cowboys' punter in 2012. He has a 45.0-yard average
(40.0-yard net average) on 156 career attempts.
Jones previously signed a one-year restricted free-agent tender for
the 2015 season.

NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Greenway, Chad
LB Chad Greenway could be gearing up for his final season in the
NFL.
The 10-year veteran agreed to a pay cut in March to remain with the
Vikings on the heels of a season in which Pro Football Focus ranked
him 38th among 40 outside linebackers who played in a 4-3 defense.
"I don't know how it's going to go," said Greenway. "I'll tell you
I'm enjoying everything with the idea of, 'Who knows? We'll see.'
Ten years is sort of that unwritten (goal). Everyone wants to get
there. We'll see what happens."
Greenway turns 33 in January 2016 and is spending the spring resting
his body and recovering from knee and rib injuries that interrupted
his 2014 season. He was a first-round pick in 2006 and his streak of
90 consecutive starts and six seasons as the team's leading tackler
ended in 2014.
"The longer you play, the longer it takes you to recover," Greenway
said. "So you take that time to get your body back to as good as
it's going to be, I guess. You just have to take it at your own
pace. But we're working pretty hard here. It's a long grind. You
have to take your time working into it."
Greenway said the health of his knees is a definite factor to be
weighed in determining whether to play in 2016. His contract with
the Vikings expires at the end of the 2015 season.
"That's a big leader. He was our defensive caller last year. When we
didn't have him in sometimes it was kind of rough to get the calls
in, but having in him, he's a big vocal point of our team," said
defensive end Everson Griffen. "He's a leader. He's been here. This
is his 10th season. So I'm happy the guy's still here. I love him
like a brother."
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Buffalo Bills Gilmore, Stephon
CB Stephon Gilmore had his fifth-year option worth about $11 million
exercised by the Bills.
Gilmore, 24, has started 39 of 41 career games since being selected
with the 10th overall pick in the 2012 draft. He has six career
interceptions and 32 passes defensed.
The sides can continue to work on a potential long-term deal.
Gilmore is expected to start opposite Leodis McKelvin next season,
and will play a key role in head coach Rex Ryan's defense, which
relies heavily on cornerbacks to handle man coverage
responsibilities.
----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Miami Dolphins Jordan, Dion
DE Dion Jordan will sit out the 2015 season resulting from a NFL
suspension for a positive drug test.
Jordan, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, will not
appeal the ban, which reportedly came from a diluted test sample.
"We were disappointed to learn about Dion Jordan's most recent
suspension for violating the NFL's Policy and Program for Substances
of Abuse," the Dolphins said in a statement. "A player's health and
well-being are of the utmost importance to us. We have made every
effort to support Dion, both on and off the field and we will
continue to do so to the extent allowable under NFL guidelines."
Jordan also was suspended for the first four games without pay in
2014 after violating the NFL's substance abuse policy and later
given an additional four-game suspension for violating the policy.
ESPN reported that the suspension puts an end to possible trade
discussions with the Philadelphia Eagles in February regarding
Jordan. The 25 year old played at Oregon when Eagles coach Chip
Kelly was with the Ducks.
Jordan has not shown up for the Dolphins' voluntary workout program
this month.
In two NFL seasons, Jordan has fallen short of expectations with
just three sacks and 46 tackles in 26 regular-season games. The
Dolphins traded up in the 2013 draft to land Jordan.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Cincinnati Bengals Kirkpatrick, Dre
CB Dre Kirkpatrick had the fifth-year option in his contract
exercised by the Bengals. The one-year deal is expected to be worth
$7.5 million.
Kirkpatrick is competing with Darqueze Dennard for a starting job at
cornerback in 2015. The former Alabama All-America said Monday that
he is taking the job after figuring out in the offseason how to be a
pro.
"A lot of the going out had to stop. A lot of the staying up late
had to stop. It's pretty much putting everything in line,"
Kirkpatrick said. "I feel like I did a great job. My trainer did a
great job. My trainer is up here right now. We're going to be doing
a little extra work in the offseason before going into OTAs, do a
little extra work after practice some time.
"I want to be the best. I don't want to just be a starting corner. I
want to be the best. I want to be the No. 1 corner in the league and
that's what I thrive."
Said head coach Marvin Lewis, "For Dre, things didn't quite bounce
his way early on, with injuries and gaining full confidence, but he
continued to fight his tail off and we saw the good results this
past year. We're very excited about his future and how he's attacked
the offseason again."
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Cincinnati Bengals Zeitler, Kevin
G Kevin Zeitler had the fifth-year option in his contract exercised
by the Bengals.
Zeitler is already a three-year starter for the Bengals.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Houston Texans Polk, Chris
RB Chris Polk agreed to terms with the Texans Tuesday (April 28).
Polk was on the market after the Eagles rescinded their restricted
free-agent tender. The 25 year old has 57 career carries in three
NFL seasons and has rushed for 4.7 yards per game.
Last season, Polk ran for 172 yards and four touchdowns on 46
carries. He added one touchdown while returning 11 kickoffs in 2014.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - * Free Agents Smith, Quanterus
LB Quanterus Smith was waived by the Broncos Tuesday (April 28) with
the designation failed physical.
Smith appeared in 15 regular-season games for the Broncos during his
first two NFL seasons. He was selected by the club in the fifth
round (146th overall) of the 2013 draft.
After spending his rookie season on injured reserve recovering from
a college knee injury, Smith played 15 of 16 regular-season games
for Denver in 2014, contributing 11 tackles (seven solo) and two
passes defensed.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Chicago Bears McClellin, Shea
LB Shea McClellin will not have his fifth-year option picked up by
the Bears. The option would have cost the team $7.75 million.
McClellin has started 20 games over the past two seasons, but he has
recorded just 66 tackles and five sacks.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Arizona Cardinals Floyd, Michael
WR Michael Floyd will have his fifth-year option in 2016 exercised
by the Cardinals as reported by the Arizona Republic. The option is
worth $7.3 million.
The No. 13 overall pick in 2012, Floyd has averaged 52 catches for
814 yards and four touchdowns in three seasons.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - San Francisco 49ers Bowman, NaVorro
LB NaVorro Bowman practiced with the 49ers on Wednesday -- his first
action with the team since he suffered a gruesome knee injury in the
NFC Championship Game in January 2014.
"I'm out there," Bowman said. "I'm putting my jersey on just like
everyone else and doing as much as I can do and that my knee allows
me to do.
"I'm passing all the tests. My knee is still stable and holding up
the way they expected. Just continue to work through the little bit
of aches that I have, but it's going to be there for at least
another year and I just have to figure out how to deal with it."
Bowman did not practice or play last season as he rehabilitated the
left knee that incurred tears of the ACL and MCL in the 49ers' loss
to the Seattle Seahawks leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Miami Dolphins Jordan, Dion
DE Dion Jordan, suspended for the season due to a positive drug
test, apologized Wednesday and said he will work on finishing his
college degree during his time away from the NFL.
Jordan, the No. 3 overall pick out of Oregon in 2013, was suspended
Tuesday because of a reported diluted test sample which counts as a
positive test.
In a statement released by the NFLPA on Wednesday, Jordan said:
"I'm very disappointed that I will not be playing in the NFL in the
2015 season. Because of past positive tests and my status in the
drug program, the consequence of diluted tests is severe. I deeply
regret putting myself in this position, and I apologize to my
teammates and the Dolphins organization. I will use the time away
from playing to finish my college degree. I will stay in excellent
physical shape and look forward to returning to the NFL as soon as
possible. I'm deeply grateful to my family and friends for their
continued support."
Jordan had been suspended twice before -- for four games each -- for
violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
In two NFL seasons, Jordan has fallen short of expectations with
just three sacks and 46 tackles in 26 regular-season games. The
Dolphins traded up in the 2013 draft to land him.

Jets out of William Penn in Iowa, finished his second consecutive
season as a 16-game starter. He had 55 tackles last season and 66
tackles in 2013.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - * Free Agents Fort, L.J.
LB L.J. Fort was waived by the Bengals Wednesday (April 29). Fort,
out of Northern Iowa, was on Cincinnati's practice squad for the
last five games of 2014 and was signed in January to the offseason
roster.
Fort played in one game for the Seattle Seahawks in 2014 and
appeared in all 16 games with the Cleveland Browns in 2012. He had
20 tackles, one sack and one interception while with the Browns.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Houston Texans Brown, Stevie
S Stevie Brown left the Giants for the Texans as an unrestricted
free agent Wednesday (April 29), agreeing to terms on a contract.
Brown had an up-and-down season in 2014, his first back from ACL
surgery. While he finished strong, he lacked the same ball hawking
skills and speed that helped him lead the Giants in interceptions
with eight in 2012.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - San Diego Chargers Rivers, Philip
QB Philip Rivers and the Chargers have reportedly continued to talk
about a contract extension beyond the 2015 season.
FOX Sports1 NFL Insider Mike Garafolo reported the Chargers met with
Rivers' agent late last week with the intent of extending his
current deal.
Rivers would become an unrestricted free agent after the 2015 season
without an extension. His future with the Chargers has been in
question after reports surfaced that he declined a contract
extension because he is wary of the team's possible move to Los
Angeles.
In addition, there has been speculation that the Chargers might try
to move up in the draft to select Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.
The Tennessee Titans draft No. 2 overall, and some have speculated
that the Chargers might try to trade Rivers to the Titans in a
package that nets San Diego the No. 2 pick. The Chargers select 17th
overall in the draft, which will take place in Chicago beginning
Thursday night.
Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said last week "it's our plan
and intent" for Rivers to remain the team's quarterback.
"It's the same thing I've said for the last four months: Philip's
our quarterback and it's our plan and intent that he's our
quarterback well into the future," Telesco said.
Rivers, 33, has been the Chargers' quarterback ever since replacing
Drew Brees in 2006, setting numerous club records and approaching
many of Dan Fouts' marks while climbing the NFL charts. The
five-time Pro Bowl quarterback has thrown for 36,655 yards, 252
touchdowns and 122 interceptions. His 95.7 rating ranks sixth in NFL
history.

LB Nick Perry can become an unrestricted free agent in March
following the team's decision to decline the fifth-year option on
his rookie contract.

2016, and face a bill of only $1,412,625 in 2015.
First-round draft picks receive four-year deals with a team option
that was to be executed by May 4 at midnight.
Perry is primarily a role player in the Packers' 3-4 defense. He has
played in just 32 of a possible 48 regular-season games due to
injury and has nine sacks.
Perry could play a greater role next season if Clay Matthews shifts
inside. Matthews was used as a wild-card in Dom Capers' defense last
season, lining up at every linebacker spot.

NFL Note - * Retired Carlson, John
TE John Carlson added his name to the early retirements in the NFL
this offseason.
After seven years in the league, the 30-year-old Carlson announced
that he's stepping away from the game. He had one year remaining on
a two-year, $4.65 million contract he signed in 2014.
The announcement apparently came as a surprise. He did not give a
reason for his departure. Carlson had worked out with the team on
Monday.
"After much thought and consideration, my wife Danielle and I know
that this is best decision for us," Carlson said. "I was blessed to
play seven seasons in the NFL for three tremendous organizations --
the Cardinals, Vikings and Seahawks. I will always treasure the
experiences and relationships made during that time, but I'm also
very excited about the next phase of my life and what's ahead."
The 6-foot-5, 248-pound Carlson played in 16 games and started 12
for the Cardinals last season and caught 33 passes for 350 yards and
one touchdown.
Picked in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame,

Cardinals, finishing with 210 receptions for 2,256 yards and 15

games, Langford rushed for 100-yards 18 times, including 10-straight
to close out his collegiate career and 16-straight against Big Ten
opponents to close out his Spartans career. Langford added 39

while also spending time at wide receiver and cornerback during his
time at Michigan State.
In 2014, Langford tied a single-season school record with 22 rushing
