The Limeliters first made their mark in folk clubs and on
college campuses during the height of the folk music boom of the
early 60s which led to numerous TV appearances and concerts.
With different configurations over the years the group has
preserved their signature vocal sound that still exists today.
The Limeliters were formed in 1959 by Louis Gottlieb, Alex
Hassilev and Glenn Yarbrough. Since that first group, there have
been nine performers who have been part of the Limeliters. The
current members are Andy Corwin, Gaylan Taylor and Don Marovich.
The group’s name came from a ski lodge named “The Limelite”
located in Aspen, Colorado, and involved the “Hungry I” in San
Francisco. Since the name Limeliters fit so well on the marquee,
the owner said, “That’s your name from now on!”

Their success was immediate. Only two days after their professional debut, they
received offers from three recording companies. They released their first album
on Elektra, but soon thereafter signed with RCA. A string of best-selling albums
followed, making the Limeliters a household name. For three years they were the
musical representatives for Coca-Cola. In the 70s, they performed a series of
yearly tours with Glenn Yarbrough.
The trademark sound, harmonies and humor of this unique group continue to earn
them their title as THE FABULOUS LIMELITERS.
