Obituary
Noel Ray Boatz, 81, died Tuesday, May 5th, 2015 at
his home in Minier. He went peacefully in his sleep
after several years of dealing with Alzheimer's
disease.
A memorial service will be held at Minier Assembly
of God on Saturday, May 16th at 11:30 a.m. with
Pastors Bob Eby and Ron Marsiglio officiating.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Saturday at the church.

Noel leaves behind a son, Garry (Lynette) Boatz and
a daughter, Kristi Rae (Russ) Dial from his first
marriage to Patricia Holloway, as well as daughters,
Kathryn Suzanne Boatz and Emily Anne (fiancé Jon
Sanderson) Boatz with current wife of 32 years,
Betsy Gerdau Boatz. He has 4 grandchildren: Lisa Rae
Boatz, Jeremy Ryan Cast, Heather Renee(Berclyn
"Alex") Cast Lopez, and Garrett Daniel (Rachel)Boatz;
and 7 great-grandchildren: Bryson Lee Cast, Kaylee
Ann Kristine McClellan, Izzabela Alexia Marie Lopez,
Berclyn "Jr" Alexander Lopez, Izzaiah Antonio Lopez,
Devin James, and Danielle James. His sister
Sharon(Dwaine) Connour is still living in Hindsboro,
IL. He also has many nieces and nephews. |
He is predeceased by his parents, John T. Boatz and Hazel (Askins)
Boatz, as well as siblings Eldon, Lowell, and Shirley.
Noel belonged to Minier Assembly of God, where he served quietly
behind the scenes in many capacities. He square danced for many
years in several groups, including Happy Squares, Twin City
Twirlers and Swing 'n Travelers. When he could no longer bowl,
he became an avid horse shoe pitcher, and was a charter member
of and statistician for the Twin City Horseshoe Pitchers Club.
He received a Master’s Degree in Math from the University of
Illinois and taught in several school districts, ending at
Bloomington High School from 1968 to 1992. He also homeschooled
his two younger daughters after retiring. He served briefly in
the U.S. Army in 1964.
