[May 09, 2015]  Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Michal Rozsival will miss the remainder of the Stanley Cup playoffs after he fractured his left ankle Thursday in Game 4 of the Western Conference second-round series against the Minnesota Wild.

"He will require surgery to repair it. He is not expected to return to full hockey activity until next season," Blackhawks Dr. Michael Terry said.

Rozsival was injured with 13:23 remaining after falling awkwardly. He was unable to put weight on his left leg and needed to be helped off the ice and to the locker room.

Rozsival played 7:16 in Game 4 and was averaging 18:34 in the playoffs as one of five defensemen used primarily by Chicago. This was his third season with the Blackhawks and he was a member of their 2013 Stanley Cup championship team.

The Blackhawks advanced to the Western Conference finals for the fifth time in seven years with a 4-3 victory over the Wild on Thursday night.

---The Detroit Red Wings have given coach Mike Babcock permission to talk to other NHL teams.

Babcock told the Detroit Free Press the permission doesn't necessarily mean an end of his 10-year tenure with the Red Wings.

"People can read it into it what they want," Babcock told the newspaper. "There is no decision made at all. We really like it here. My family loves Detroit. It's way easier for my family to stay here, 100 percent easier. My kids are all going away, but they still want to come back to Detroit on Thanksgiving. They want to come back to Detroit in the summer to work out. So it's way easier for them."

The window for teams to talk to Babcock began at noon Friday and is expected to remain open until late May. Babcock's contract with the Red Wings expires June 30.

---The San Jose Sharks reached an agreement with the City of San Jose on a lease extension at SAP Center that could run through 2040.

The Sharks have played in the arena since it opened in 1993. The current lease runs through June 30, 2018.

Under terms of the agreement announced Friday, the Sharks will play home games at SAP Center through 2025 before the lease renews in an annual basis starting in 2026 and running through 2040. The San Jose City Council will discuss the agreement at a public hearing on May 19.

The Sharks manage and operate the city-owned facility.

---Winnipeg Jets captain Andrew Ladd underwent surgery for a sports hernia, the team announced.

The forward is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for training camp in September.

Ladd, a finalist for the 2014-15 Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award, had career highs of 38 assists and 62 points to help the Jets to 43-26-13 record, the best in the history of the franchise. The Jets were swept by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
