Community lifted up in prayer on National Day of Prayer in Lincoln

[May 11, 2015]  LINCOLN - Prayers for our nation and our community lifted like incense from the altar from the rotunda of the Logan County Courthouse on Thursday. The activity was simultaneously held over the noon hour in locations all across our country as part of the 64th National Day of Prayer.

Ken Benham welcomed the group of about 50 people and then various other spiritual leaders led the group in focused prayer. It began with a reading in unison led by Father Mark Evans of Trinity Episcopal Church. It was the opening prayer written by Dr. Jack Graham, national honorary chairman.

Following that the group was led in specific intercessory prayers.

First was Earnie Harvey, Chaplain at Safe Harbor Hospice led prayer for
"Government and military" asking for a shout out of local names as he
announced various branches of the military.

Larry Crawford of Open Arms Christian Fellowship led prayer for media; that truth be spoken, and in popular culture that social media serve supportive uses.

There was also prayer for "Business and the economy" led by Pastor Ryan Edgecombe of Broadwell Christian Church; "Schools and education" led by Professor Emeritus Dr. Robert Wilson, Lincoln Christian University; and "Churches and families" led by Pastor Darron Palmer, Faith Assembly.

Michael Mallick, senior minister of Jefferson Street Christian Church, led the closing "Lord's Prayer" followed by God Bless America, led by Patsy Wilson.
