Captain Alex Ovechkin expressed his optimism that the Washington Capitals will eliminate the New York Rangers in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

"We're going to come back and win this series," said Ovechkin, who hasn't scored in the last four games as the Capitals let a 3-1 series lead disappear.

The Capitals recalled defenseman Nate Schmidt from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Schmidt, 23, recorded four points (three assists) in a career-high 39 games with Washington this season. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
