next suddenly includes Singleton. "He's making a case for
consideration," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "We're very aware of

with our guys. There's no doubt Singleton is making a push to factor
back into the major league roster."

SS Brad Miller played left field for the first time as a
major-leaguer Thursday. He spent about the past 10 days working on

Miller's goal is to keep it simple. Very simple. "One of my friends
from back home gave me some advice," he said. "The walls don't
move."
The Mariners need Miller in the lineup because he has a
.253/.318/.424 slash line with two homers and 11 RBIs. The Mariners
are also down an outfielder because Austin Jackson is on the 15-day
disabled list with a sprained ankle, forcing left fielder Dustin
Ackley to play center. Miller is borrowing one of Ackley's outfield
gloves.

LHP Roenis Elias skirted trouble for most the night. Making his

striking out two. It was Elias' third consecutive quality start, but
he has yet to pick up a win. "He pitched a great game," manager
Lloyd McClendon said. "That's his fourth game in a row where he
pitched and deserved to get the win, and he didn't get the win. But
he was outstanding. I didn't want him to go through the lineup four
times."

CF Wil Myers received a cortisone injection to help with his left
wrist tendinitis. Manager Bud Black speculated Myers could be

RHP Brandon Morrow got a cortisone injection in his ailing right

LHP Clayton Kershaw will make his fifth attempt to earn his 100th
career victory Friday night when he faces the Colorado Rockies. In

over 26 innings for a 4.15 ERA. He already has conceded 24 runs and
five home runs this year compared to 42 total runs and nine homers
all of last year. Nevertheless, Kershaw has amassed 30 strikeouts
while permitting only five walks in the four-start winless streak.

LHP Daniel Coulombe was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on
Thursday for his second stint this season with the Dodgers. In nine
relief appearances covering 11 1/3 innings at Triple-A, Coulombe
conceded just two earned runs, amassed 16 strikeouts and recorded
one save. The Dodgers also recalled Coulombe on May 4. He pitched
one inning May 5 against the Brewers before being returned to the
minors May 6.

LHP Brett Anderson amassed a season-best eight strikeouts while

he hit a run-scoring double and walked in his two plate appearances.
The hit was Anderson's third of his major league career; all three

39 2/3 innings, during which he permitted just 27 hits and six
earned runs.

Yimi Garcia into the right field stands. The home run and the three
RBIs were the first for Gonzalez since April 25.

RHP Chad Bettis made his season debut Thursday after being recalled

made his major league debut last year, has yet to win a big-league

inning in two games. He didn't have a decision while posting a 1.59
ERA in 12 outings for Las Vegas.

RHP Anibal Sanchez pitched eight innings of one-run ball Thursday to
raise his record to 3-4. Sanchez, who struggled in most of his
starts, was razor sharp after being handed a 3-0 lead in the first
inning. "I used my fastball more," Sanchez said. "I tried to keep
the ball down all day long." He struck out nine Twins and walked
just one while allowing five hits.

RHP Chad Billingsley, Friday's starter against Arizona, struggled in
both of his starts this season, going 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA. In 10

innings against the Braves and Mets after starting the season off in
the minors. In his career, he's 10-9 with a 3.83 ERA in 27
appearances (25 starts) against the Diamondbacks.

SS Freddy Galvis raised his batting average to .353 by going 3-for-3
with a walk and two runs in the Thursday's win over Pittsburgh. The
25-year-old infielder, who entered the season hitting .218 in three
prior seasons, is now second in the National League in hitting and
has the best batting average and on-base percentage (.403) among all
NL shortstops. He's hitting .406 at home this season.

LF Josh Harrison went 3-for-4 against the Phillies on May 14,
raising his average up to .200 as the Pirates are still trying to
get his bat going. Last year, Harrison -- who predominantly plays

hard to get better, he's trying to get that swing up in the zone,
get the pitchers throwing him strikes," Hurdle said. "It was a much
better day for him."

but he can still build on the outing. "It was all right, good at the
start, and then just got tired at the end, and they had the rally
so, the runs we got in the top of the sixth were huge to give us

struck out three of the four batters he faced before giving up a
