With the bases loaded and one out in the seventh, Atlanta manager
Fredi Gonzalez approached home plate umpire Chris Segal to complain
that Milwaukee reliever Will Smith had a foreign substance on his
right forearm. Segal gathered the other members of the crew and
immediately ejected the infuriated left-hander, who was shown
screaming at Gonzalez as he left the field.
The next four Braves delivered hits, transforming a 2-1 lead into a
commanding seven-run lead over the disoriented Brewers.
Cameron Maybin, Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis each finished with
two RBIs for the Braves.
Giants 4, Dodgers 0
SAN FRANCISCO -- Madison Bumgarner and four relievers scattered nine
hits as San Francisco posted its second three-game shutout at home
against Los Angeles since 2012.
Bumgarner went the first 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits while
striking out six and walking two. George Kontos, Javier Lopez,
Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla followed to close out the Dodgers,
who also got swept at AT&T Park in April.
Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing all four
runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking two.
Blue Jays 8, Angels 4
TORONTO -- R.A. Dickey pitched his first complete game of the
season, and Edwin Encarnacion hit a three-run homer as Toronto
defeated Los Angeles.
The Blue Jays earned their second win in the past nine games to
split the four-game series with the Angels, who got home runs from
first baseman Marc Krauss and third baseman David Freese. Left
fielder Danny Valencia also homered for the Blue Jays.
Dickey (2-5) allowed five hits, two walks and four runs while
striking out seven. The knuckleballer earned his first win since May
4 by throwing the Blue Jays' second complete game of the season.
Rangers 3, Red Sox 1
BOSTON -- Wandy Rodriguez pitched another strong game in helping the
Rangers to a 3-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.
Rodriguez allowed one run on four hits in 6 2/3 innings. Rebounding
from a poor start his previous outing, Rodriguez (2-2) allowed just
one run for the fourth time in his six appearances.
Keone Kela recorded three strikeouts in four outs, and Shawn
Tolleson worked a scoreless ninth for his second save in as many
nights (and in his career). Mitch Moreland hit a solo homer, added
two singles and drove in two runs.
Rays 3, Athletics 0
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Alex Colome and four relievers combined for
a four-hit shutout as Tampa Bay topped Oakland.
The Rays got an RBI double and solo home run from David DeJesus, and
that was all the scoring the pitching staff needed. Colome (3-1)
pitched five innings, and the bullpen continued its strong work,
allowing only two hits in the final four innings.
Oakland lost its third straight and seventh in the past eight.
Tigers 6, Astros 5 (11 innings)
DETROIT -- James McCann homered to lead off the bottom of the 11th,
and Detroit, which squandered a five-run lead, pulled out a victory.
Pinch hitter Preston Tucker hit a one-out, opposite-field home run
off Tigers closer Joakim Soria in the ninth to tie the score at 5.
It was Tucker's first career homer and the Astros'
major-league-leading 62nd of the season.
Detroit starter David Price struck out a season-high 12 and held
Houston scoreless until he allowed three runs in the seventh.
Diamondbacks 7, Marlins 6
MIAMI -- The Diamondbacks came through with their first four-game
road sweep in seven years.
Arizona took a 7-6 lead in the seventh on a two-out infield single
by A.J. Pollock, who beat reliever Sam Dyson's throw on a close play
at first base. That allowed Cliff Pennington to score from third
base.
The Marlins have lost seven games in a row, all on this homestand.

Mets 5, Cardinals 0
NEW YORK -- Jacob deGrom retired the final 23 batters he faced and
combined on a two-hitter with Jeurys Familia.
DeGrom gave up a one-out single to Matt Carpenter in the first
inning before completely shutting down a St. Louis lineup that had
scored 19 runs in the two previous games. The reigning National
League Rookie of the Year struck out a season-high 11 and didn't get
to a three-ball count on a single batter.
Jamie Garcia took the loss in his season debut for the Cardinals.
The left-hander, who was activated from the disabled list before the
game, allowed two runs on five hits and five walks while striking
out three over seven innings.
Rockies 7, Phillies 3
DENVER -- Michael McKenry's two-run homer and strong work by the
Colorado bullpen enabled the Rockies to overcome a poor start by
Jorge De La Rosa and get their fourth win in 19 games.
Brandon Barnes, who was recalled Wednesday from Triple-A
Albuquerque, went 4-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.
Five Rockies relievers combined to pitch 4 2/3 scoreless innings,
limiting the Phillies to two hits.
Orioles 5, Mariners 4
BALTIMORE -- Steve Pearce hit a grand slam in the first inning, but
the Orioles needed a tiebreaking single from J.J. Hardy in the
eighth.
Pearce's homer gave the Orioles an early 4-0 lead, but they could
not hold it as the Mariners kept chipping away in a game that was
interrupted by a 2-hour, 5-minute rain delay in the third -- plus a
12-minute rain delay at the start.
Tommy Hunter got the win after the right-hander escaped a
bases-loaded situation with two outs in the eighth. Left-hander Zach
Britton closed it in the ninth, earning his ninth save.
Indians 5, White Sox 2
CHICAGO -- Danny Salazar threw six scoreless innings, and Cleveland
rode a heavy dose of early offense to a win over Chicago.
The Indians put together their first three-game winning streak of
the season while earning their fifth victory in seven games. The
White Sox fell for the third straight time after stringing together
six straight victories. Chicago dropped a home series for the first
time this season, losing three of four to the Indians.
Third baseman Mike Aviles sparked Cleveland's offense with four
hits. He and Swisher each hit first-inning solo homers.
Cubs 3, Padres 0
SAN DIEGO -- Kyle Hendricks pitched a five-hit shutout, and rookies
Kris Bryant and Addison Russell hit home runs as Chicago defeated
San Diego in the rubber match of a three-game series at Petco Park.
It was the first shutout and complete game for Hendricks, 25, in 21
major league starts.
Hendricks pitched beyond the sixth inning for the first time in
eight starts this year and faced only three hitters above the
minimum. All five hits he allowed were singles -- two being infield
singles. He struck out seven without walking a batter.
