Obituary
Margaret Ann Coogan Blanford went to be with her
lord. (Friday, May 22, 2015) She was born June
24, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri to Dr. James A. &
Irene Henry Coogan.
She attended St. Patrick’s School & Lincoln
Community High School. She received her bachelor’s
and master’s degrees from the University of
Illinois. She was a teacher at Lincoln Community
High School for many years. She worked several years
at Lincoln Developmental Center as an educational
advocate.
On August 22, 1961, she was united in marriage to
Frederick L. Blanford. He preceded her in death on
October 12, 2008.
She is survived by her son, Frederick J. Blanford
and his wife, Amy and three precious granddaughters,
Camille, Abigail, and Claudia of Jacksonville,
Illinois. She is also survived by a brother, Judge
David Coogan and his wife, Judy.
Marge was active in her church and her community.
She baked and cooked for many people. She and Fred
baked cakes for many birthdays; and the hundreds of
Christmas cookies they baked and delivered each
December were always a welcome gift. |
She enjoyed entering and winning at the County
Fair. She attended her granddaughters’ many
activities and bragged on them shamelessly.
Her two trips to Ireland to see the land of her
ancestors were a lifelong dream. She was able to see
the places where her great grandparents had lived.
She loved life and lived it to the fullest in the
time that she was given.
She donated her body to research. A memorial service
will be held at 4:00 p.m. followed by a visitation
gathering celebrating Margaret’s life from 5:00 p.m.
- 7:00 p.m. on Thursday May 28, 2015 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Memorial donations may be made in Margaret’s name to
