[May 27, 2015]  May 26 (The Sports Xchange) - The first All-Star Game voting results were released Tuesday by Major League Baseball and the Kansas City Royals dominated the early fan balloting.

Five players from the defending American League champion Royals -- third baseman Mike Moustakas, shortstop Alcides Escobar, catcher Salvador Perez and outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon -- are leading or among the starters at their positions.

Perez leads all AL players with 1,447,753 votes and is well ahead of second-place Stephen Vogt (795,848) of the Oakland Athletics.

Cain is next with 1,376,217 votes. Behind Cain in the outfield balloting is Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (1,297,085), the 2014 AL MVP, and the Royals' Gordon (991,606).

If the voting holds, the Royals would be the first team since the Cincinnati Reds in 1976 with five All-Star starters. This year's game will be played July 14 in Cincinnati.

Other position leaders are Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera (1,347,351), Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (1,301,754) and Seattle Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz (1,225,255).

All-Star voting ends July 2.

Infielder Alberto Callaspo rejected a deal that would send him from the Atlanta Braves to the Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Juan Uribe.

FOX reported Callaspo's approval was required for the deal to be completed before June 15.

According to multiple reports, Callaspo was told he was on the block when he was a late scratch from Monday's lineup. The former Los Angeles Angels utility man is batting .206 with eight RBIs in 107 at-bats this season.

The Miami Marlins reassigned third base coach Brett Butler after recent mix-ups over signs.

Larry Harris will take over in the third-base coaching box and Butler will focus on base running and outfielders.

The moves come a day after a disagreement in Pittsburgh over a hit-and-run sign during a game against the Pirates. Butler and bench coach Mike Goff argued in the dugout, with Butler saying he was following the directive provided from the dugout and Goff saying there was no sign given for a hit-and-run.

All-Star right-hander Johnny Cueto of the Cincinnati Reds had an MRI exam that showed no structural damage to his ailing right elbow.

Cueto's injury, termed "right elbow stiffness" by the Reds, forced him to miss a start. He was skipped in his scheduled rotation spot Sunday and examined Monday.

With a day off Thursday, the Reds could bring Cueto back this weekend.

The Miami Marlins placed first baseman Michael Morse on the disabled list with a sprained right ring finger.

The move is retroactive to Sunday. Morse last played on May 21.

In 37 games for the Marlins this year, Morse has struggled, batting .211 with two home runs and 10 RBIs after signing a two-year, $16 million contract with Miami during the offseason.
