Obituary
Dr. Howard C. Anderson, a longtime resident of
Lincoln, passed away on Friday May 22, 2015 at St.
Clara’s Manor in Lincoln.
Dr. Anderson was born in Chicago on May 29, 1934.
His was the second child of Dr. Myrtle V. Anderson,
and Dr. Truman O Anderson.
Dr. Anderson received his B.S. from Roosevelt
University, and a Master’s and Ph.D. from Illinois
State University. A longtime advocate of education,
Dr. Anderson taught a variety of topics including
Political Science, History, and English at Lincoln
College for 30 years in Lincoln. He often measured
his success on the accomplishments of those he took
the most pride in, his students.
After retirement he became an Auxiliary Deputy for
the Logan County Police, a position he loved almost
as much as teaching where he would meet some of his
closest life-long friends.
Lovingly known as the “wasp whisperer” by his
family, he could gently escort any type of unwanted
insect or animal (including wasps) outside to safety
without being stung; his kind and gentle nature was
felt by all. |
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn (Chris)
Carpenter; his granddaughter, Gabriella Carpenter;
his brother, Truman O Anderson II M.D.; his nephew,
Truman O. (Caroline) Anderson III; three nieces,
Mary Beth Logas, Barbara (Richard) Hickey, and Amy
Ellen (David) de Jong; and 11 grandnieces and
grandnephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on
Saturday May 30, 2015 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln with Larry Crawford
officiating. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made to Safe Haven Hospice, 628 ½ Broadway, Lincoln
IL 62656.
