[May 30, 2015]  May 29 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Friday's Major League Baseball games.

Cardinals 3, Dodgers 0

John Lackey tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out nine to push St Louis past the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0.

St Louis shortstop Jhonny Peralta doubled twice as the Cardinals (32-16) won their fifth straight game.

The Dodgers fell to 28-19.

Rangers 7, Red Sox 4

Josh Hamilton hit two home runs to pace Texas to a 7-4 win over the Boston Red Sox.

Hamilton is back with the Rangers (24-25) after departing prior to the 2013 season.

Boston fell to 22-27.

Royals 8, Cubs 4

Lorenzo Cain went 3-for-4, including an eighth-inning RBI double for the go-ahead run, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago Cubs 8-4 to snap a four-game losing streak.

The double by the Royals center fielder against Chicago (25-22) reliever Pedro Strop scored third baseman Mike Moustakas for a 5-4 lead.

Kansas City (29-18) added two more runs in a three-run eighth and a run in the ninth.

Reds 5, Nationals 2

Joey Votto and Todd Frazier homered and rookie Anthony DeSclafani pitched six solid innings to lift the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-2 victory over the Nats.

Nationals (28-20) right-hander Stephen Strasburg left the game in the second inning with an undisclosed injury and was replaced by right-hander Taylor Jordan.

Marlins 4, Mets 3

First baseman Justin Bour hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning and right-hander Dan Haren threw seven solid innings as the Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets 4-3.

Orioles 2, Rays 1

J.J. Hardy singled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Baltimore Orioles a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Rays (24-25) have lost six straight. The Orioles improved to 23-24.

Rockies 4, Phillies 1

Chad Bettis combined with John Axford on a two-hitter as the Colorado Rockies beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1.

The 26-year-old Bettis, making just his fourth start since his recall from the minors on May 14, had a perfect game through six innings and a no-hitter through 7 1/3.
 


Phillies left fielder Cody Asche broke it up by grounding a single to left field.

Padres 6, Pirates 2

Derek Norris, who struck out in his first four at-bats, hit a two-out, walk-off grand slam to give the San Diego Padres a 6-2 win over the Pirates -- ending Pittsburgh's seven-game winning streak.

But the Pirates, deploying a six-man infield, got two straight forceouts at home before Norris hit his fourth homer of the season to left-center off Rob Scahill.

Athletics 6, Yankees 2

Right-hander Sonny Gray threw eight strong innings, third baseman Brett Lawrie hit a two-run homer and the Oakland A's defeated the New York Yankees, winning back-to-back home games for the first time this season.

The A's have won 16 of their past 21 games against the Yankees overall and 11 of their past 12 meetings in Oakland.

Blue Jays 6, Twins 4

Chris Colabello's two-run homer with no outs in the top of the ninth inning broke a tie and the Toronto Blue Jays posted a victory over the Minnesota Twins.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for Minnesota (28-19), who began the day tied atop the American League Central standings.

Diamondbacks 7, Brewers 5

Nick Ahmed's eighth-inning home run snapped a tie game and gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Ahmed's homer, off Brewers right-hander Jonathan Broxton (1-2), was his third of the season and one of four hit Friday by the Diamondbacks, who came into the game with at least one in each of their last six games.

White Sox 6, Astros 3 (11 innings)

Geovany Soto cranked a two-run, tie-breaking double to right field in the top of the 11th inning as the Chicago White Sox claimed the opener of their three-game series with the Houston Astros.

Four White Sox (22-25) relievers combined to work five scoreless innings. Houston (30-19), conversely, needed seven relievers after starter Lance McCullers departed in the fifth inning.

Mariners 2, Indians 1

Seattle Mariners rookie Taijuan Walker pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, and he got all the offense he needed on designated hitter Seth Smith's two-run homer in the sixth.

Walker matched a career high with eight strikeouts, without walking a batter, while his eight innings equaled the longest outing of his 21 career starts.

Giants 4, Braves 2

Veteran Tim Hudson beat the Atlanta Braves for the first time in his career, outdueling young right-hander Mike Foltynewicz in the San Francisco Giants' victory.

Catcher Buster Posey drove in three runs with a home run and a double, providing all the offense Hudson and two relievers would need to pitch the Giants into first place in the National League West with a sixth consecutive home win.

Angels 2, Tigers 0

Hector Santiago allowed just three singles over 7 1/3 scoreless innings, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a win over the Detroit Tigers.

It marked the seventh time in 10 starts this season that Santiago yielded one earned run or less, but the first time he pitched into the eighth inning. (Editing by Peter Rutherford/John O'Brien)
