Sending a clear message that any actions that alter the outcome of playoff races will not be tolerated, NASCAR suspended Matt Kenseth for two races, the sanctioning body announced Tuesday.

After two-plus days of extensive review, NASCAR levied some of its stiffest penalties resulting from on-track retaliation. In this case, it was Kenseth's wreck of Joey Logano during Sunday's Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway. The end result is Kenseth's streak of 571 consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts will end.

With less than 50 laps left in the race, Kenseth appeared to intentionally wreck Logano, the race leader, in retribution for a perceived purposeful spin by Logano in the closing laps at Kansas Speedway two weeks ago.

In addition to Kenseth's penalty, NASCAR also issued a 25-point penalty and $50,000 fine to Danica Patrick, who wrecked David Gilliland during Sunday's Martinsville race.

Joe Gibbs Racing, owner of Kenseth's car, will appeal the ruling.

NHL

The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled goaltender Antoine Bibeau from the Toronto Marlies on an emergency basis.

Bibeau, 21, had a 5-1-0 record with a 2.17 goals against average and a .908 save percentage in six appearances with the Marlies this season. He has played in 38 regular-season games with the Marlies since he was selected by the Maple Leafs in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, posting a 20-11-5 record with a 2.53 goals against average, a .913 save percentage and four shutouts.

---The Anaheim Ducks called up left winger Max Friberg from San Diego of the American Hockey League and assigned right winger Tim Jackman to the Gulls on Tuesday.

Friberg, 22, has five points in seven games for San Diego this season. The 2011 fifth-round draft pick made his NHL debut with the Ducks in 2014. Jackman, 33, had no points and four penalty minutes in two games for the Ducks this season.

Parker and guard Tyler Ennis, recovering from a shoulder injury, are expected to play Wednesday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Parker, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 draft, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and had surgery in January. Coach Jason Kidd said the team will not play Parker extensively for several weeks.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly now says he's sorry for a sideline altercation during Saturday night's game against Temple after initially refusing to apologize for his actions.

The exchange with assistant strength and conditioning coach David Grimes occurred during the third quarter of the Fighting Irish's 24-20 win in Philadelphia. Kelly rushed over to Grimes, grabbed him and pushed him back toward the bench.

"I wish the situation never occurred," Kelly said. "I regret that it happened. David and I have met, we have met about the situation and we've moved past it. Dave's a valuable employee and he is a guy that does a great job here and is gonna be with us a long time."
