NBA roundup: Pacers get first win, Pistons first loss

[November 04, 2015]  AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Rodney Stuckey scored 23 points off the bench and the Indiana Pacers notched their first victory of the season by downing the previously unbeaten Detroit Pistons 94-82 on Tuesday night at The Palace.

The former Pistons point guard made 9 of 14 field goal attempts and 5 of 6 free throws for the Pacers (1-3). Indiana power forward Paul George supplied 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists, point guard George Hill contributed 12 points and six assists and shooting guard Monta Ellis added 15 points.

Indiana converted 23 Detroit turnovers into 30 points. The Pacers bench outscored the Pistons' reserves 43-2.

Center Andre Drummond recorded his second consecutive 20-20 game for the Pistons (3-1) with 25 points and a career-high 29 rebounds. His second career 25-25 game matches the amount recorded by the rest of the league since his rookie season of 2012.

Hawks 98, Heat 92

MIAMI -- Behind a first-half surge and a defense that maintained the lead throughout, Atlanta bested Miami at AmericanAirlines Arena.

The Hawks earned their seventh consecutive win over their Southeast Division foe.

All-Star guard Jeff Teague led Atlanta with 26 points and nine assists. Forward/center Al Horford finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds, and forward Paul Millsap added 12 and 10.

Hornets 130, Bulls 105

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jeremy Lamb scored 20 points to lead seven players in double figures, and Charlotte notched its first victory of the season by routing Chicago.

The Hornets raced to a 37-20 lead after one quarter and went on to lead by as many as 27 points in the first half, eventually settling for a 69-47 halftime advantage. They never let the Bulls closer than 17 in the second half and led 100-77 after three.

The Hornets had far and away their best shooting night of the season and finished at 51.6 percent from the field. They hit eight of their first nine shots, were 13 of 18 from the field in the first quarter, and finished the half at 58.1 percent. They hit eight 3-pointers in the first half and finished 14 of 23 from 3-point range, 60.9 percent.

Magic 103, Pelicans 94

NEW ORLEANS -- Evan Fournier scored 30 points, including consecutive 3-pointers inside the final 73 seconds, and Nikola Vucevic added 22 to power Orlando to a victory over winless New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center.

In notching their first win after an 0-3 start, the Magic held Pelicans forward Anthony Davis to 14 points on 3-of-12 shooting, and all three baskets came on dunks. Eric Gordon led the Pelicans with 21 points.

The Magic led 87-74 when Fournier hit a driving layup and foul shot with 9:03 left, but the Pelicans used a 11-4 run to shave the deficit to 91-85. Fournier then hit a pair of long-range jumpers down the stretch to help the Orlando pull away.

Raptors 102, Mavericks 91

DALLAS -- Kyle Lowry scored 27 points, and Toronto remained undefeated by topping Dallas at American Airlines Center.

The Raptors, 4-0 for the first time in franchise history, rode a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter to take control in the first of a four-game road trip. The Mavericks dropped their home opener after going 2-1 on a West Coast road trip. Dallas, which swept Toronto last season, held a halftime lead and was up by four points midway through the final period.

Lowry shot 9-for-15 from the floor, including 4-for-5 from beyond the 3-point line, and added 10 assists. Shooting guard DeMar DeRozan battled back from early foul trouble to score 20 after logging just seven minutes in the first half.

Grizzlies 103, Kings 89

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Zach Randolph scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Memphis shook off the worst loss in franchise history to beat Sacramento at Sleep Train Arena.

Courtney Lee added 14 points, and Mike Conley scored 14 points with six assists for Memphis, which was less than 24 hours removed from a 119-69 loss to the Golden State Warriors. The Grizzlies were outscored 72-27 in the middle two quarters of that contest.

Marc Gasol sat out the entire second half with neck spasms but finished with eight points for Memphis.
 


Nuggets 120, Lakers 109

LOS ANGELES -- Kenneth Faried scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and Denver extended the losing ways of Los Angeles.

Danilo Gallinari had 21 points and eight rebounds, J.J. Hickson finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, and rookie Emmanuel Mudiay added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Nuggets.

Guard Jordan Clarkson tied a career high with 30 points for the Lakers, who dropped four straight to open the season for the second year in a row and only the third time in franchise history. They had chances to prevail against the Nuggets but faded late.
