Healthy Communities Partnership offers free “Caring for Diabetes” training

[November 05, 2015]  LINCOLN - Uncontrolled diabetes indicates that the patient's blood sugar level is not kept within acceptable levels by his or her current treatment routine. In 2014, the Illinois Hospital Association reported that the rate of emergency room visits in Logan County due to uncontrolled diabetes was higher than 75% of other Illinois counties.

On Saturday, November 7 from 9am-3pm Healthy Communities Partnership will be offering a free workshop to the public, “Caring for Diabetes”. People with diabetes, their families, and caregivers are encouraged to attend. The event is being presented by HCP in an effort to help educate Logan County residents about diabetes and encourage better control of the disease at the individual level. The workshop will be held in the Steinfort Conference Center at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Jennifer DiPasquale, Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator at ALMH, will present a variety of important topics including meal planning, emergency and safety planning, traveling tips and how to use glucose results. In addition, Registered Nurses from Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital will be on hand for a hands-on insulin injection demonstration.
