The Lincoln/Logan County
Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday hosted two special workshops for
Logan County businesses. The event was held in the computer lab on
the campus of Lincoln Christian University with an early session at
8 a.m. and another session over the noon hour.
The workshop was an opportunity for attendees to get their "business
on the map" with Google. The Chamber, partnering with Google,
offered a step by step process for registering and defining a
business in Google so that it is more "searchable."
Chamber Director Nicole Cox spoke to the noon group saying that
making Logan County businesses more searchable was to the benefit of
the business as well as visitors to the community. She said that
statistically speaking, today, travelers when they are visiting a
new area, will "Google" various categories to find interesting
places they want to visit while in the area.
The workshop included a short video provided by Google on how to go
about setting up a business so it will show up accurately and
completely in a Google search. Then Cox, LCA Event Coordinator, Cara
Barr, along with volunteers from the Chamber Ambassadors offered
help and oversight as the business owners, managers, or selected
staff, put together their personalized entries into the Google
Search.
The hour went quickly, but everyone was able to get started on
creating their business profile for Google. The profiles are not
searchable yet, as part of the process included a registration that
will be verified via the U.S. Postal service by Google.
The event held Wednesday was free for all area businesses.
