Blue Jays 15, Orioles 2
Marcus Stroman allowed one run in eight strong innings as the
Toronto Blue Jays clinched their first American League East title in
22 years with a 15-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the first
game of a double header.
The Jays (92-65) have won six successive games and are pursuing the
best record in the American League, which would give them home-field
advantage throughout the AL playoffs.
Stroman (4-0) gave up one run and five hits with eight strikeouts
and two walks.

Orioles 8, Blue Jays 1 (2nd game)
Chris Davis led a four-home run attack with two solo shots while
starter Kevin Gausman shut down Toronto for eight innings as the
Baltimore Orioles salvaged a split of the double header.

Pirates 8, Cardinals 2 (1st game)
Francisco Cervelli hit a grand slam while Gerrit Cole pitched seven
innings for his 19th win as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St.
Louis Cardinals in the first game of a double header.

Cardinals 11, Pirates 1 (2nd game)
The St. Louis Cardinals clinched their third successive National
League Central title with an 11-1 rout of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Jason Heyward had a grand slam among his three hits and starter
Tyler Lyons pitched seven scoreless innings in the second game of
the doubleheader.

Twins 7, Indians 1 (1st game)
Joe Mauer and Byron Buxton homered while Torii Hunter drove in three
runs as the Minnesota Twins beat the Cleveland Indians in the first
game of a double header.
The Twins broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning.

Indians 10, Twins 2 (2nd game)
Cody Anderson pitched seven scoreless innings on two hits as the
Cleveland Indians beat the Minnesota Twins in the second game of a
double header.
Losing the second game prevented the Twins from taking a big step in
the race for the second wild card spot. They began the day one game
behind Houston and 1-1/2 games behind the Angels in the race for the
second wild card.

Braves 2, Nationals 0
Jordan Zimmermann had a quality start in what was likely his last
game for the Washington Nationals, but it was not good enough to get
a victory.
The Braves defeated the Nationals on a pair of early runs off
Zimmerman, who allowed six hits over six innings. The right-hander,
who becomes a free agent after the season, walked one and struck out
one.

Rays 6, Marlins 4
Designated hitter Grady Sizemore hit a three-run double in a
four-run fifth inning as the Tampa Bay Rays earned a 6-4 win over
the Miami Marlins.
Rays starter Drew Smyly struck out eight while holding the Marlins
to one run on three hits and three walks.

Cubs 10, Reds 3
Jon Lester retired the final 20 batters he faced while center
fielder Austin Jackson had a career-high five RBIs as the Chicago
Cubs pounded the Cincinnati Reds.
Lester (11-12) allowed one base runner over his final seven innings.
He struck out nine and did not walk a batter to lower his ERA to
3.34.

A's 8, Angels 7
The Oakland A's rallied for four runs in the seventh inning and
cooled off the surging Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels, who won their previous seven games, had taken a 5-3 lead
into the seventh inning but the Angels' bullpen could not hold the
lead, denying Garrett Richards his 16th win.
Richards gave up three runs on two hits and four walks in six
innings. He struck out seven.

Phillies 7, Mets 5
A wild pitch by New York Mets reliever Carlos Torres brought home
the go-ahead run in a three-run sixth inning as the Philadelphia
Phillies rallied for a 7-5 win.
Second baseman Daniel Murphy and left fielder Michael Conforto
homered in a five-run first inning for the Mets.

Red Sox 9, Yankees 5 (11 innings)
Third baseman Deven Marrero drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th
inning as the Boston Red Sox prevented the New York Yankees from
clinching a post-season spot.
The Yankees (86-72) had to win the game to clinch their first
playoff spot since 2012, though by the time of Boston's 11th-inning
rally, the Minnesota Twins (82-76) and Los Angeles Angels (83-75)
had already lost their games.

Royals 5, White Sox 3 (10 innings)
Eric Hosmer hit a two-run homer in the 10th to give the Kansas City
Royals the win they needed to secure home-field advantage in the
American League Division Series.

Rangers 6, Tigers 2
Left fielder Mike Napoli's two-run home run keyed a four-run
outburst in the third inning for the Texas Rangers, who moved a step
closer to the AL West Division title with a 6-2 victory over the
Detroit Tigers.
The Rangers (86-72) lead the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros
by three games, pending the results later.

Giants 5, Dodgers 0
The Los Angeles Dodgers' first day as National League West champs
was not a pleasant one when they were limited to two hits by San
Francisco Giants right-hander Mike Leake in a 5-0 defeat.
The loss cost the Dodgers (88-70) a chance to tie the New York Mets
(89-69) in the NL's overall standings, which will determine the
home-field advantage in the first-round playoff matchup.

Diamondbacks 3, Rockies 1
Arizona left fielder David Peralta had two hits and an RBI in the
Diamondbacks' 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

Brewers 5, Padres 0
Zach Davies threw seven shutout innings as the Milwaukee Brewers
defeated the San Diego Padres 5-0, the right-hander allowing five
hits and two walks, with six strikeouts.
Davies (3-2), a rookie making his sixth start for the Brewers, won
his second straight after blanking the Chicago Cubs for six innings
in his previous outing on Sept. 23.

Astros 7, Mariners 6
Colby Rasmus delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning,
and the Houston Astros overcame a rough outing from veteran starter
Scott Kazmir to beat the Seattle Mariners 7-6.
Houston (84-75) kept their slim hopes of winning the AL West alive
while moving past the Los Angeles Angels in the AL wild-card
standings. The Astros are a half-game ahead of Los Angeles, who open
a four-game series with Texas on Thursday while Houston take their
final off day.
The Rangers (86-72) hold a 2 1/2-game lead over the Astros in the
division, three games over the Angels (83-75).
