Parents, and a growing number of LCHS students, are spending their
hours before game day huddled around grills and tables full of
shared food.
“Last year, my husband Jim tore apart a trailer...His mission was to
build a tailgate trailer for his son's (Austin Sparrow) first year
of Railer football,” Sherri Sparrow said. “He made an attachment for
a grill on the back and painted it red and green. (Waiting) only for
football to start.”
Once football started, so did the tailgates.
Now you can find a dozen or more families huddled around Sparrow's
mobile grill.
“The 'Railer Trailer' has been to every game so far,” Sparrow added.
“It's has been a great way to meet other Railer families.”
New head coach Seth bass said the tailgates are part of the new
culture of Railer football.
“It's one of the things I really wanted to tray and stand for,
trying to get the energy up,” Bass said. “I'm glad to see the
tailgating, I'm glad to there's energy around the program, I'm glad
to see the positive vibes.”
The vibes will be on display Friday before Lincoln's homecoming game
against Rochester High School.
Any Railer parent, whether their kids are in football or any other
sport, are welcome to come out and tailgate in the grassy area
between Immanuel Lutheran Church and the high school parking lot.
Friday marks a return to Handlin Field for the Railsplitters who are
still looking for their first win of the season.
It's unlikely to come Friday, the Rochester Rockets are undefeated
and seeking their sixth straight Class Four A state title.

But Bass said Rochester is the measuring stick for Lincoln football,
noting both schools have small student populations and small
communities
“They're not quite the team they've been in the past,” Bass said of
the Rockets. “But they're still extremely dangerous.”
Rochester has scored 303 points so far this season, second in the
conference by just two points.
Lincoln has surrendered the most, giving-up 266.
Bass said his defense will have its hand full.
“We're still cleaning up our reads, we're still figuring that out a
little,” Bass said.
Don't be surprised if the Railers take to the air.
Bass said he wants a balanced running and passing attack, the
Splitters moved the ball last week against Sacred Heart Griffin by
throwing to the edge.
“I think going forward, we;re going to be a little bit more
explosive,” Bass added.
Lincoln hosts Rochester for the 2015 homecoming game, 7 p.m. at
Handlin Field.
