[October 06, 2015]  Oct 5 (The Sports Xchange) - The NHL suspended San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres for 41 games, without pay, for interference and an illegal check to the head in a preseason game against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, the league announced Monday.

Montreal Canadiens forward Zack Kassian was placed in Stage Two of the substance abuse and behavioral health program of the NHL and NHLPA.

Under the terms of the joint program, Kassian will be suspended without pay until cleared for on-ice competition by the program administrators.

The suspension stems from a car accident early Sunday that broke the 24-year-old Kassian's nose and left foot and drew the ire of Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin.

The Philadelphia Flyers waived Andrew MacDonald one year after signing the defenseman to a six-year, $30 million contract.

He has five years and $25 million remaining on the deal, and most NHL people believe he will pass through waivers unclaimed.
