The Cardinals will play host in the series opener to the
winner of Wednesday night's NL wild-card game between the
Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs in Pittsburgh.
The 36-year-old Lackey posted a 13-10 record with a 2.77 ERA in
218 innings and 33 starts this year. He fared better at home
than on the road during the season with a 1.93 ERA.
Lackey is likely to be opposed on Friday night by Pittsburgh's
Francisco Liriano or Chicago's Jon Lester.

Pittsburgh Pirates infielder-outfielder Sean Rodriguez started
at first base in the National League wild-card game despite
making just 10 starts at the position during the regular season.
Regular Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez had a team-high 27
home runs but also led all major-league first baseman with 23
errors and is 2-for-17 in his career against Jake Arrieta, the
Cubs starter.

The Chicago Cubs started Tommy La Stella at third base in the
wild-card game, moving rookie third baseman Kris Bryant to left
field and shifting rookie LF Kyle Schwarber to right field.

Despite finishing last in the National League West with a 68-94
record, the Colorado Rockies will retain manager Walt Weiss for
the 2016 season.
Next season will represent the final year of Weiss' three-year
deal he signed after his first season in 2013.
