10/08/2015 NHL Note - New York Rangers Lundqvist, Henrik

G Henrik Lundqvist started his 10th straight season-opening game for the New York Rangers. The only goaltender with more season-opening starts for the Rangers is Ed Giacomin, whose 11-season streak ran from 1965-76.

NHL Note - Chicago Blackhawks Kane, Patrick

RW Patrick Kane skated on a line with C Artem Anisimov and LW Artemi Panarin for the Blackhawks. Kane reportedly is the subject of a law-enforcement investigation near Buffalo, N.Y., but he has not been charged.

G Antti Raanta, currently with the Rangers, was presented his Stanley Cup ring prior to the season-opening game on Wednesday. Raanta was 7-4-1 for Chicago last season before the Rangers acquired him in June.

NHL Note - Vancouver Canucks Sutter, Brandon

RW Brandon Sutter made his Canucks debut and started on the top line with C Henrik Sedin and LW Daniel Sedin. Vancouver acquired Sutter, 26, from the Pittsburgh Penguins in late July in a deal that saw C Nick Bonino go the other way.

D Dougie Hamilton played on Calgary's top pairing with the team captain, D Mark Giordano, in his Flames debut. Calgary acquired Hamilton from the Boston Bruins at last June's draft for a trio of picks.

RW Patrick Kane tallied an assist and led the team with five shots on goal. He is the subject of a law-enforcement investigation near Buffalo, N.Y., but he has not been charged. "The crowd was supportive," he told ESPN after the Blackhawks' home opener. "In the situation, you don't know which way it's going to go, one way or the other, but at the same time, try to control what I can now. Go out on the ice and have fun, play hockey and try to make some plays and create some offense for my team. It's fun to be out there playing."

LW Artemi Panarin shined in his Chicago debut, scoring a goal. The Blackhawks signed the 23-year-old to a two-year contract this summer after he notched 62 points in 54 games in Russia's KHL last season. "I call him the bread man," coach Joel Quenneville said. "Looked like he had the puck all night." Panarin described his emotions as "over the top," adding, "I'm trying to remember the reactions of the crowd. I kind of got overwhelmed, couldn't hear anything. I was really happy. It's just too bad we didn't win."

C Nick Shore deflected a shot from RW Dustin Brown past San Jose G Martin Jones and into the net for a 1-0 Los Angeles lead at 1:49 of the first period of Wednesday's loss to the Sharks. It was the second-straight lopsided home-opening loss by the Kings, who lost 4-0 to the Sharks last year.

G Martin Jones, a former King who was acquired by the Sharks in an offseason trade with the Boston Bruins, shook off the early goal before blanking Los Angeles the rest of the way in a win Wednesday. Jones stopped 19 of 20 shots.

RW Jiri Hudler scored the lone goal for the Flames in a loss to the Canucks on Wednesday. "The Canucks were much better than us," said Flames coach Bob Hartley. "We played a game that is totally out of character from us. We got what we deserved. They kicked our butt."

RW Brandon Sutter, normally a center, made the switch this season with the Vancouver Canucks to play on a line with Henrik and Daniel Sedin. The move paid off on the opening night of the NHL's regular season as Vancouver's top line combined for six points to lead the Canucks to a 5-1 win over the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday. "Hank and Daniel are pretty smart guys so we can read off each other," Sutter, who scored the game-winning goal and also had an assist, said. "They're just so intelligent out there -- easy to read. They're always in the right spot, so that makes it a lot easier for me and for anyone that plays with them and tonight they were great."
