 On every Monday in October, ALMH wil provide mammograms free to
eligible women. From 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on October 5, 12, 19 and
26, free mammograms will be availalbe to women who are over the age
of 40 and either underinsured or uninsured. ALMH has earned
accreditation as a mammography facility through the American College
of Radiology.
A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast that is used to detect
irregularities or suspicious masses. Safe and highly effective,
mammograms are the most important tool doctors use to diagnose
breast cancer. They are used as both an early detection tool for
women experiencing no symptoms and a diagnostic tool for women
experiencing symptoms such as a lump, pain or nipple discharge.
Mammography plays a central part in early detection of breast
cancers because it can show changes in the breast up to two years
before a patient or physician can feel them. Current guidelines
recommend screening mammography every year for women, beginning at
age 40. Research has shown that annual mammograms lead to early
detection of breast cancers, when they are most curable and
breast-conservation therapies are available.

Regional Cancer Partnership of Illinois with funding provided by
the Memorial Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the CureŽ.
