to hold free seminar on Osteoporosis

SPRINGFIELD
– Memorial Medical Center will host a free seminar on osteoporosis and
low bone mass at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Memorial Center for
Learning and Innovation.

The program, titled “Preventing Achy, Breaky Bones,” will feature
Dr. Venkat Ganapathy, an orthopedic surgeon with SIU HealthCare, and
Tonya Reddy, a nurse practitioner with Springfield Clinic. The
seminar will be in 2A Theatre Classroom.
An estimated 54 million Americans are living with or are at risk for
osteoporosis and low bone mass. The seminar will discuss what
participants can do to decrease their risk of fractures.
Other topics will include risk factors associated with osteoporosis
and how calcium, vitamin D and exercise affect the bones.

The Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation is at 228 W. Miller St., at the
southeast corner of Rutledge and Miller streets. Free parking is available on
the first and third levels of the parking garage south of the center at Rutledge
and Carpenter streets. The garage entrance is off Klein Street.
