Obituary
Jerry D. Overby, 75, of Lincoln passed away at 5:40
a.m. October 11, 2015 at Taylorville Memorial
Hospital, Taylorville.
Jerry was born April 25, 1940, in Leora, Missouri,
the son of Carl and Lucy Johns Overbey. He married
Nancy Ostendorf August 18, 1962 in Edwardsville. She
survives in Lincoln.
He is also survived by one son: Michael (Karen)
Overby of Bloomington; one daughter: Michelle (Tito)
Gomez of Petersburg, two sisters: Betty Bowermaster
of Hartford; Georgia Unthank of Godfrey; three
grandchildren: Anthony Gomez, Mark Overby, and Nick
Overby.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother,
Walter; and grandson: Patrick.
Jerry was a lifelong educator and retired as
Superintendent of Lincoln Community High School,
Lincoln. He was a member of Holy Family Church; the
Knights of Columbus; and the Elks Lodge #914. He was
an avid sports fan, loved basketball, golfing, and
was an avid Cardinal Fan. |
Services for Jerry will be Friday, October 16, 2015
at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Simon
Taabu officiating. Visitation will be at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln
Thursday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayer
service at 3:30 p.m. A graveside service will be
held Friday, October 16, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at
Edwardsville Calvary Catholic Cemetery,
Edwardsville. Memorials may be given in Jerry’s name
to Holy Family Church of Lincoln.
