LC started the day strong against Elgin Community
College, easily taking the first two sets 25-16 and 25-10. In
set three, Elgin regrouped and jumped out to an early four point
lead which they maintained most of the set. Lincoln mounted a
comeback attempt behind the strong serve of setter Ashley
Robinson to tie the score at 22, but Elgin was able to sideout
and hold off the Lady Lynx for a 26-24 win to extend the match.
In set four, Elgin continued to give LC trouble with tough
serves and scrappy defense as they led all the way for a 25-20
win. However, in the deciding set to 15, Lincoln College jumped
all over ECC early by dominating them at the net and attacking
with speed and accuracy.
The Lady Lynx built a 10-2 lead and finished off the win
15-4. In the second match, Lincoln was able to take out Joliet
Junior College in straight sets 25-9, 25-15, 25-21. The wins
improved Lincoln College to 14-10 on the season.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: "We played sound, fundamentally
strong volleyball for most of the day. I was very pleased with
the way the setters ran the offense and our defense played with
intensity. We also passed the ball well off of serve receive,
which is something our players have worked very hard on this
season. The Elgin match was an odd one because they started off
so rough then just came alive in sets two and three to play at a
much higher level. They earned the points to win those sets, and
I could not fault our effort or point to mental errors as the
reason for the losses. It was quite satisfying though to see our
team go out in set five with determination and show a will to
win. Our block completely shut down their offense and when our
hitters got a chance to swing they were hammering the ball. It
was a lot of fun to watch. The Joliet match was one we
controlled from start to finish. JCC was down a couple of
players, so they had a hard time competing. We were able to give
a few players some rest and challenge others to take on new
roles. It was a nice win to take into the Fall Break."
LC is off until Thursday evening when they will host Carl
Sandburg College in a 6:00 pm match.
