[October 15, 2015]  DANVERS - John H. Perkins, “John The Barber,” 94, of Danvers, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 4:07 a.m. at the Heartland ManorCare Center in Normal.

Visitation: Saturday October 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Danvers.

Masonic Rites:  11 a.m. Saturday at the church

Service: 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the church

Funeral home: Quiram Peasley Funeral Home, Atlanta

Obituary

John H. Perkins, “John The Barber,” 94, of Danvers, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 4:07 a.m. at the Heartland ManorCare Center in Normal.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Perkins will be held on Saturday October 17, 2015 at 11:15 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Danvers with Rev. Kathy Mitchell officiating. Masonic Rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Hieronymous Cemtery in rural Armington following the service.

Quiram Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta is in charge of the arrangements.

John Harold Perkins was born on April 5, 1921 in Kane, Illinois the son of William and Della R. Beuschel Perkins. He was united in marriage to Dorine Mason Turner on December 31, 1946. She preceded him in death in January 1978. He later married Gladys Duke Speaks. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2007.

He is survived by step-children: Steve (Barb Gibson) Turner of Bloomington, Betty Sue (Pat) McCorminck of Michigan; four grandchildren: Cathy (Terry) Melick, Christopher Long, Melinda (Tony) Feger and Patrick (Amy) Turner; seven great-grandchildren: Michelle Brockway; Matthew (Gena) Melick; Megan (Brent) Whitecotton; Devin, Damick and Drew Feger; and Alivia Turner; three great-great-granchildren: Grace Melick, Kaitlynn and Sierra Whitecotton; and many nieces and nephews of whom he was extremely close.

He was preceded in death by his wives, step-daughter Carolyn Turner Long, and 12 Siblings.

Mr. Perkins graduated from Kane High School. He then served in the United States Navy. A barber by trade, with shops in Bloomington, McLean, and Danvers.

He was a Life Member of the Danvers Masonic Lodge with a 50 year pin, Oct 2015 marking 60 years; Danvers Lions Club; VFW and American Legion. John was a Member of the First Presbyterian Church of Danvers.

Memorials may be made to his church; Danvers Peace Meals; or to the family in care of Cathy Melick, Danvers .

The family wishes to thank Dr. Joseph Liu and his loving staff at OSF Ft. Jesse, OSF Hospice, and Heartland ManorCare staff.
