 A native of Bradford, Illinois, in Stark County, Armstrong
brings to NREC more than 15 years of experience in agriculture
and related industries that are key to the growth of the
organization. She previously worked at the Illinois Soybean
Association, DCC Marketing, Golden Harvest and Pioneer.
Armstrong is a 1999 graduate of Illinois State University with a
bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness.
“Julie’s experience, particularly in marketing, made her the
ideal candidate for this role,” said Dale Hadden, Chairman of
NREC. “One of the biggest challenges we face is educating
farmers on critical farming practices and sharing research-based
recommendations. Julie will be able to help us carry that
message to farmers, industry stakeholders, and other
organizations who have a vested interest in nutrient efficiency
in Illinois.”
Armstrong will manage and administer the Council’s day-to-day
operations. In addition, she will ensure that the organization
fulfills its statutory purpose of pursuing nutrient research and
providing educational programs to ensure the adoption and
implementation of practices that optimize nutrient use
efficiency, ensure soil fertility and address environmental
concerns with regard to fertilizer use.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to help NREC raise
awareness about science-based solutions that address nutrient
usage on Illinois farms,” Armstrong said. “This work is
important for Illinois farmers and agribusinesses, and I look
forward to helping NREC achieve its mission.”
Armstrong will serve as the primary point of contact for the
Council, including interaction with government organizations,
non-governmental organizations, agricultural and environmental
organizations, universities, individual researchers and project
managers, the media and the public.

About Illinois NREC
The Illinois Nutrient Research & Education Council (NREC) was
created by state statute in 2012. Funded by a 75-cent per ton
assessment on bulk fertilizer sold in Illinois, NREC provides
financial support for nutrient research and education programs to
ensure the discovery and adoption of practices that address
environmental concerns, optimize nutrient use efficiency, and ensure
soil fertility.
A 13-member NREC Council annually solicits, reviews and funds
projects that fulfill the organization’s mission.
