OF Ben Revere is in the lineup for Game 4 of the ALCS but hurt his
back Monday, manager John Gibbons said.
Revere received treatment Monday night after jamming his back
running the bases. Gibbons said Revere should not be limited by the
injury.

MLB Note - New York Yankees Tanaka, Masahiro
RHP Masahiro Tanaka had arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to remove a
bone spur from his right elbow. The bone spur was pre-existing,
dating back to his pitching career in Japan, the Yankees said.
He is expected to resume throwing in six weeks.

MLB Note - New York Mets Harvey, Matt
RHP Matt Harvey had an injury-protection insurance policy taken out
by agent Scott Boras to reclaim a potential loss in earnings that
would result from re-injury.
Boras had a public beef with the Mets about overextending Harvey in
his first year back to the mound after Tommy John elbow surgery.
Harvey is on pace to set the all-time record for innings pitched in
his first season back to the mound after the ligament replacement
operation if the Mets reach the World Series. The record of 215
innings was set by John Lackey. Boras made a similar move on behalf
of Max Scherzer, but the policy was not used.

MLB Note - Baltimore Orioles Rondon, Jorge
RHP Jorge Rondon was designated for assignment by the Orioles on
Oct. 20. Rondon, 27, went a combined 0-1 with a 13.19 ERA in 10
relief appearances for the Rockies and the Orioles this year.
Baltimore claimed him off waivers from Colorado on May 10.

MLB Note - Baltimore Orioles Worley, Vance
RHP Vance Worley was claimed off waivers by the Orioles from the
Pirates on Oct. 20. Worley was dropped from Pittsburgh's 40-man
roster after pitching in 23 games this season and starting eight. He
posted a 4-6 record with a 4.02 ERA in 71 2/3 innings. The
28-year-old spent the past two seasons with the Pirates after three
years with the Phillies and one with the Twins. He has a 27-22
career record with a 3.77 ERA in 81 games and 73 starts. Worley's
contract was $2.45 million in 2015. He is eligible for arbitration
this winter.

MLB Note - Kansas City Royals Volquez, Edinson
RHP Edinson Volquez, who will start Game 5 of the AL Championship
Series against the Blue Jays, allowed two hits in six innings during
the Royals' 5-0 victory in Game 1. It was his first career
postseason win. He walked four in the game, including two in a
37-pitch sixth inning. During the regular season, he held the
opposition to a .202 batting average with runners in scoring
position, fifth lowest in the American League. In two postseason
games this year, Volquez has limited the opposition to a .167
batting average (3-for-18) with runners in scoring position.
Including his Game 1 start in the ALCS, he is 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA in
his career against Toronto. He lost to the Blue Jays in the regular
season at Rogers Centre on Aug. 2, allowing two runs and four hits
in six innings.

MLB Note - Kansas City Royals Cain, Lorenzo
CF Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-3 with two walks and three RBIs in the
Royals' 14-2 win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday in Game 4 of the AL
Championship Series. He extended his club-record postseason hitting
streak to 13 games, dating to Game 4 of the 2014 World Series. OF
Amos Otis held the previous Kansas City postseason record of 11
games. During the streak, Cain is batting .310 (16-for-50) with two
doubles, one home run, nine runs and 10 RBIs.

MLB Note - Kansas City Royals Cueto, Johnny
RHP Johnny Cueto allowed eight earned runs in two-plus innings
Monday in an 11-8 Game 4 loss to the Blue Jays in the AL
Championship series. It was a Royals club record for runs allowed in
a postseason game. The previous mark was held by RHP Dennis Leonard,
who allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings of a 7-6 loss to the Phillies
in Game 1 of the 1980 World Series. LHP Tom Glavine of the Atlanta
Braves is the only other pitcher to have allowed at least eight runs
over two or fewer innings in a postseason game. In Game 6 of the
1992 NLCS against the Pirates, Glavine pitched a runless first but
allowed eight runs (seven earned) in the second inning. Cueto
suggested the Blue Jays were stealing signs.

MLB Note - Kansas City Royals Morales, Kendrys
DH Kendrys Morales hit a two-run homer in the Royals' 11-8 loss to
the Blue Jays on Monday in Game 3 of the AL Championship Series. It
was his fourth homer of the postseason, one short of the club record
for homers in one postseason, set in 2014 by 3B Mike Moustakas.
Morales went 1-for-5 Tuesday in Game 4.

MLB Note - Kansas City Royals Escobar, Alcides
SS Alcides Escobar was 2-for-3 with two sacrifice flies and four
RBIs Tuesday in the Royals' 14-2 victory over the Blue Jays in Game
4 of the AL Championship Series. He is batting .600 (9-for-15) in
the ALCS with six runs and five RBIs. In the postseason, he is
batting .417 (15-for-36) with nine runs and five RBIs.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Estrada, Marco
RHP Marco Estrada will start Game 5 of the AL Championship Series on
Wednesday against the Royals at Rogers Centre. Estrada said he had
trouble locating his fastball when he took the loss in the series
opener Friday. He allowed six hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings
in a 5-0 Royals victory. That left Estrada at 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA in
his two postseason starts this year, the first of his career. He
appeared four times as a reliever in the 2011 postseason when he was
with the Brewers. In two regular-season starts against the Royals
this year, he went 1-1 with a 2.92 ERA.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Bautista, Jose
RF Jose Bautista went 1-for-4 with an RBI on Tuesday in the Blue
Jays' 14-2 loss to the Royals in Game 4 of the AL Championship
Series. He has reached base in all nine of his postseason games. He
is batting .235 (8-for-34) with two homers, seven RBIs, seven walks
and a .366 on-base percentage.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Dickey, R.A.
RHP R.A. Dickey on Tuesday became the first knuckleball pitcher to
start an AL Championship Series game since Boston RHP Tim Wakefield
in Game 4 of the 2008 ALCS against the Rays. Wakefield took the loss
in that game but won Games 1 and 4 in the 2003 ALCS against the New
York Yankees, the last time that a knuckleballer started and won an
ALCS game. Dickey took the loss Tuesday, allowing five runs (four
earned), four hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings. RHP Tom
Candiotti, also a knuckleball pitcher, started Games 1 and 5 of the
1991 ALCS for the Blue Jays against the Twins and went 0-1 with an
8.22 ERA.

INF Cliff Pennington became the first full-time position player to
pitch in a postseason game.

He came in to pitch with two outs in the ninth inning Tuesday in the
Blue Jays' 14-2 loss to the Royals in Game 4 of the AL Championship
Series. He allowed two hits and two inherited runners to score but
got a foulout to end the inning. The Blue Jays were without LHP
Aaron Loup, who was called home for a personal family situation for
the second time this postseason, leaving the bullpen short,
especially after RHP R.A. Dickey lasted only 1 2/3 innings. It was
Pennington's first pitching appearances. "The circumstances aren't
what you want," he said.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Loup, Aaron
LHP Aaron Loup was not with the Blue Jays for Game 4 of the AL
Championship Series, won 14-2 by the Royals. "Loup got a call and he
had to head to the airport and head home," manager John Gibbons
said. "That's why he wasn't available today. We were in a bind." The
Blue Jays used INF Cliff Pennington to get the final out of the
ninth inning in the blowout, the first time a full-time position
player has pitched in the postseason. Loup also missed Games 4 and 5
of the AL Division Series due to a personal matter.

MLB Note - Los Angeles Dodgers Grandal, Yasmani
C Yasmani Grandal will have arthroscopic surgery Oct. 21 to fix his
left shoulder's AC joint. He should be ready for spring training.
Grandal dealt with pain in the shoulder since August and had just
seven hits in his last 104 at-bats (including 1-for-10 in the
playoffs). "I'm looking forward to not having to deal with this
anymore," he said.

MLB Note - Los Angeles Dodgers Turner, Justin
INF Justin Turner will undergo arthroscopic surgery Oct. 22 to clean
up loose bodies in his left knee. He is expected to be ready for the
start of spring training. Despite knee discomfort, Turner played 126
games this year, hitting .294/.370/.491 with 16 homers and 60 RBIs.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Hammel, Jason
RHP Jason Hammel (10-7, 3.74 ERA regular season; 0-0, 6.00 ERA
postseason) is scheduled to make his second playoff start in
Wednesday's NLCS Game 4. He started Game 4 of the NL Division Series
against St. Louis, allowing two runs in three innings and taking a
no-decision in a 2-1 Cubs walk-off victory. Hammel is in the
postseason with his fourth team, also reaching with the Rockies
(2009), Orioles (2012) and A's (2014). He is 0-1 with a 5.00 ERA in
postseason appearances, including four starts. Hammel made an
appearance last year with Oakland, facing one batter in the AL
wild-card game and allowing a hit.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Wood, Travis
LHP Travis Wood gave up two runs on two hits while recording just
one out in the seventh inning of Game 3 of the NL Championship
Series as the Mets extended their lead to 5-2. Wood saw his NLCS ERA
shoot up to 7.71. He is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA overall in five
postseason relief appearances.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Soler, Jorge
RF Jorge Soler slammed his third home run of the postseason Tuesday,
a solo shot to center field off Mets RHP Jacob deGrom. His three
home runs this October are the second-most home runs in franchise
history by a rookie, trailing only Kyle Schwarber's five. Soler is
hitting .400 (6-for-15) with a double, three home runs and five RBIs
in six games this postseason.

LF Kyle Schwarber belted his fifth home run of the postseason
Tuesday, a solo shot off Mets RHP Jacob deGrom in the first inning.
He broke the franchise record for home runs in a single postseason,
surpassing the four that Alex Gonzalez and Aramis Ramirez hit in
2003. The five home runs this postseason are the second most in
postseason history by a rookie, trailing only the six hit by Tampa
Bay 3B Evan Longoria during the 2008 playoffs.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Hendricks, Kyle
RHP Kyle Hendricks started in Game 3 of the NL Championship Series
but was pulled for a pinch hitter after throwing four innings. He
wasn't involved in the decision. Hendricks gave up two runs on five
hits, walked one and struck out four.

MLB Note - New York Mets deGrom, Jacob
RHP Jacob deGrom improved to 3-0 through three starts this
postseason, firing seven innings of two-run ball against the Cubs in
Game 3 of the NL Championship Series. He is the second starter in
Mets franchise history to win three consecutive postseason starts,
joining Jerry Koosman (1969, 1973). DeGrom also is the first pitcher
in Mets history and the 20th pitcher in major league history to win
each of his first three postseason starts and the first since
Cardinals RHP Michael Wacha did so during the 2013 playoffs. With
seven strikeouts Tuesday, deGrom has 27 strikeouts this postseason,
the third most in franchise history for a single postseason.

MLB Note - New York Mets Familia, Jeurys
RHP Jeurys Familia threw a perfect ninth inning to record his fifth
save of the postseason, extending his franchise postseason saves
record. He has a save in four consecutive games dating back to Game
5 of the NL Division Series. Familia has allowed just two hits and
one walk in 8 2/3 scoreless innings this postseason.

MLB Note - New York Mets Murphy, Daniel
2B Daniel Murphy homered for the fifth straight postseason game,
tying the all-time record set by Houston's Carlos Beltran in 2004.
His sixth long ball of the postseason gave the Mets a 2-1 lead in
the third inning Tuesday off Cubs RHP Kyle Hendricks in Game 3 of
the NL Championship Series. He broke the Mets' all-time postseason
homer record, surpassing the previous mark held by Mike Piazza
(five). In eight playoff games this year, Murphy is hitting .364
(12-for-33) with nine RBIs.

MLB Note - New York Mets Cespedes, Yoenis
CF Yoenis Cespedes went 3-for-5 with two RBIs on Tuesday in the
Mets' Game 3 win. Cespedes has two home runs and seven RBIs in eight
games this postseason and is hitting .273 (9-for-33). He is 4-for-13
(.308) in the NL Championship Series.

MLB Note - New York Mets Matz, Steven
LHP Steven Matz (4-0, 2.27 ERA regular season; 0-1, 5.40 ERA
postseason) takes the mound Tuesday with seven days of rest as the
Mets hope to complete a four-game NL Championship Series sweep of
the Cubs. Wednesday's start will be the eighth of Matz's big league
career. He took a 3-1 loss last week in Game 4 of the NL Division
Series against the Dodgers, allowing three runs in five innings.
