Lincoln needed a win to secure the #5 seed in the Region 24
Post-season Tournament which begins in two weeks.
The first set was closely contested, with SWIC claiming a narrow
25-23 win. In set two, the Blue Storm kept the momentum building
a late 21-16 lead.
That's when a service error gave the ball to Lincoln and
sophomore setter Cassie Jennings, who helped turn things around
by serving seven points in a row (three of them aces) to put LC
up 24-21.
SWIC managed a sideout, but a quick set from Jennings to fellow
sophomore Katie Jordan for a kill gave LC the set win 25-22.
Energized by the come-from-behind win, the Lady Lynx did not
faulter in the next two sets. They were able to control the
tempo of play with accurate passing and a strong offensive
attack on their way to wins of 25-21 and 25-19.
The victory improved the team's record to 17-12 and earned LC a
match-up against #4 seeded Lewis & Clark College on November 4th
in the first round of the Region Tournament. The teams have
faced each other twice this season with Lewis & Clark winning in
four sets in September and Lincoln coming out on top in their
second meeting in five.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: "Wins on the road in our Region are
especially tough to earn, which makes this win even more
significant. Our players showed a lot of poise and the ability
to adjust to what our opponents did well in order to slow down
their attack. SWIC has some strong offensive players and it took
us a while to figure out their style of play, but once we did,
we were able to outlast them on some key plays and keep the
momentum on our side. The serving of Cassie Jennings was a big
boost to our team. When she has her serve working the way it has
been for the past few matches, she creates a lot of trouble for
opposing passers. I am extremely pleased with the growth our
players have shown this season, and I believe we will take a
confident team into the first round of the Region Tournament in
a couple of weeks."
Next up for the Lady Lynx is a home match on Thursday against
the Millikin University JV. This will be a Dig Pink fundraising
event. Match time is 6:30 p.m.
