[October 23, 2015]  Oct 22 (The Sports Xchange) - Boston Bruins forward Zac Rinaldo avoided a suspension from the NHL after his hit on Philadelphia Flyers forward Sean Couturier during Wednesday night's game.

Rinaldo was ejected from Boston's overtime loss to the Flyers and received a five-minute major penalty when he charged Couturier along the boards at the end of the first period.

The league said Thursday after reviewing the play that it supported the game officials' decision but decided against further disciplinary action.

Couturier suffered an upper body injury and did not return to play in the final two periods.

The Bruins also announced Thursday that defenseman Tommy Cross was assigned to Providence of the American Hockey League.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Pascal Dupuis will be in the lineup Thursday night for the first time since last playing on Nov. 15 of last season, the team announced.
 


Dupuis, 36, was diagnosed with blood clots, ending his 2014-15 season. Set to return for the start of this season, his comeback was delayed by a lower-body injury.

It has been a difficult few years for Dupuis, who was also limited to only 39 games in 2013-14 due to a knee injury.

The Los Angeles Kings recalled defenseman Jamie McBain from the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League, the team announced.

McBain, 27, has 28 goals over six NHL seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres and the Kings. He had three goals in 26 games for Los Angeles last season.

The Arizona Coyotes assigned forward Matthias Plachta to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.

The 24-year-old Plachta signed with the Coyotes as a free agent in late May after scoring 14 goals in 47 games for Mannheim in Germany.

The Toronto Maple Leafs assigned defenseman Frank Corrado to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League on a conditioning loan.

Corrado, 22 was claimed on waivers from Vancouver on Oct. 6 and has yet to appear in a game. He has scored two career NHL goals in 28 games.

The Buffalo Sabres assigned defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

Sanguinetti, 27, has two career goals in 45 NHL games.

The San Jose Sharks recalled forward Bryan Lerg from the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League.

Lerg, 29, had three goals in four games with the Barracuda. He played in two games for the Sharks last season and scored one goal.
