							Obituary 
							 
							Everett E. “Ed” Cherry, 74, of Elkhart, passed away 
							on Tuesday October 20, 2015 in Elkhart. 
							 
							He was born August 13, 1941 in Lincoln, to Everett 
							L. and Jessie Bryson Cherry. He married Marilyn Wise 
							on June 13, 1963 and she survives. 
							 
							Ed is also survived by their five children; Melisa 
							Beal of Mechanicsburg, Rebecca (Joseph) Simko of 
							Sherman, Laura (Robb) Hanner of Athens, Scott 
							(Hillary) Cherry of Mount Pulaski, and Robert 
							(Callie) Cherry of Danvers: ten grandchildren: Chris 
							(Kristy) Maus, Mary (Mitchell) Gillett, Brittney 
							(Rory) Taylor, Jessie Maus, Nick Hanner, Nathan 
							Simko, Cason Cherry, Teagan Cherry, Lila Cherry, and 
							a grandchild to be born in April 2016; three 
							great-grandchildren: Lexy Jordan, Evelynn Taylor and 
							Fallon Gillett; his sister Ruth Fuiten of Mount 
							Pulaski; his brother and sisters-in-law Janet 
							Cherry, Jan Bentley, Connie Wise, Linda Wise, and 
							Larry and Polly Wise, and numerous nieces, nephews, 
							and cousins. 
							 
							He was preceded in death by his parents, his 
							mother-in-law Winnie Ackridge Wise, his brothers 
							John Cherry and Timothy Cherry, his brothers-in-law 
							Orville Bentley, Bob Fuiten, and Mike Wise; and his 
							granddaughter Jill Denise Reynolds.  
							 
							Ed graduated from Elkhart High School in 1959 and 
							served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963 as a member 
							of the 55th Strike MP Battalion stationed on the DMZ 
							in South Korea. He farmed in the Cornland area for 
							42 years, retiring in 2005, and retired from the 
							State of Illinois in 2011 after working at the 
							Illinois State Museum and IDOT in Logan County. He 
							was a member of Elkhart American Legion Post #616, 
							serving multiple terms as commander. He was also a 
							member of the Teamsters Union and Springfield Harley 
							Owners Group (HOG) #1116. He was a volunteer fire 
							fighter for thirty years and played fast pitch 
							softball for many years. He was proud to be on the 
							Cutler-Hammer fastpitch team that won the Illinois 
							State Tournament in 1969.  | 
							
							 
                    
					  
							Ed enjoyed riding his Harley, going to sporting 
							events and visiting with family, friends, and 
							neighbors. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, 
							the Athens Warriors, and the sports teams of his 
							children and grandchildren. Ed loved his family and 
							was proud of their achievements. He had a great 
							sense of humor and always had a joke or a funny 
							story to share. Ed was loved by everyone. We were 
							blessed to have him in our lives, and he will be 
							greatly missed. 
							 
							Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 
							26, 2015 at Elkhart Cemetery at 10am, where full 
							military rites will be accorded by the Elkhart 
							American Legion Post #616. Memorial donations may be 
							made in Ed’s name to the Elkhart American Legion 
							Post #616 or the Ronald McDonald House of Central 
							Illinois. Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home of 
							Mt. Pulaski has been entrusted with the 
							arrangements.
