MLB Note - Kansas City Royals Cueto, Johnny

RHP Johnny Cueto will pitch Game 2 of the World Series on Wednesday in Kansas City. "We wanted Johnny Cueto in Game 2, because Johnny really feeds off the home crowd," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "And we're able to have Johnny in Game 2 and Game 6 here at home, where we think that that gives us a bit of advantage having Johnny pitching at home in front of our home crowd. They really, really give him a lot of energy. He's pitched his best games here."

In two home starts during the postseason, Cueto is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA. In his lone road start in the playoffs, he gave up eight earned runs in two-plus innings during a Game 4 loss to the Blue Jays in the AL Championship Series.

MLB Note - Kansas City Royals Volquez, Edinson

RHP Edinson Volquez will get the start for the Royals against the Mets on Tuesday in Game 1 of the World Series.

The 32-year-old veteran will be matched up against Mets RHP Matt Harvey. Volquez is 1-2 with a 4.32 ERA in three starts this postseason. Volquez was 13-9 with a 3.55 ERA in the regular season. "It's another game, I don't have to do anything different than what I've been doing," Volquez said. "I've got to stay focused in what you're doing, especially this game, because this is a World Series game."

MLB Note - Minnesota Twins Hunter, Torii

OF Torii Hunter, a five-time All-Star and nine-time Gold Glove winner, announced his retirement Oct. 26 at age 40.

"I'm sad because it's all I've known for half of my life," Hunter told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "But mentally, I think it's time. I still love the game, but time has taken a toll on me mentally and physically."

In 139 games this year, Hunter hit .240 (his lowest mark for a full major league season) with a .293 on-base percentage, a .409 slugging percentage, 22 homers and 81 RBIs. For his 19-year career, Hunter posted a .277/.331/.461 batting line with 353 homers, 1,391 RBIs and 195 stolen bases in 2,372 games.

MLB Note - New York Mets Cespedes, Yoenis

CF Yoenis Cespedes, who exited the final win over the Cubs in the NLCS with a sore left shoulder, will play in Game 1 of the World Series.

Cespedes received a cortisone shot last week. "I have no concern," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "He's ready to go."

MLB Note - New York Mets Reynolds, Matt W.

INF Matt Reynolds likely will be on the Mets' roster with Ruben Tejada out due to a broken leg, although Reynolds has never appeared in a major league game. "This is about as exciting as it gets, to get called up and in a week's span you're in the World Series, it's incredible," Reynolds said. "It almost doesn't seem real. I feel like I'm almost dreaming."

MLB Note - New York Mets Uribe, Juan

INF Juan Uribe, who was left off the Mets' roster for the first two postseason series due to a chest contusion, might make the team's World Series roster, manager Terry Collins said Monday. Uribe left the Sept. 20 game with the injury. X-rays and an MRI were negative, but he didn't play Sept. 21-22. He appeared as a pinch hitter Sept. 23, then sat out Sept. 24. He pinch-hit again Sept. 25 but couldn't complete his at-bat when chest soreness recurred. Uribe subsequently sat out the rest of the regular season and the start of the postseason, but he resumed baseball activities Oct. 18.
